When I loosing the clutch and spin it freely..every half turns I can feel a bump. Have to open up the base and take a look.

Quick question..to update autostar I will need #505 cable correct? anything else besides the cable?

#505 cable, probably a Serial-to-USB adapter (I'll suggest FTDI-based) and either Meade's ASU program or much-better yet, the free or paid version of StarGPS (Starpatch).

But do you really need to update the firmware for some reason right now?

Chris: I have the old firmware right now (I think v2). And newest firmware is v4 I believe.

If the scope is an older one I would recommend updating the firmware if you are having problems BUT only if you know what you are doing and make sure that you do not lose power during the update and all cables are safe from running pets or kids.
I had one of the first ETX-125s and the were some issues that required me to update the firmware but that was when they first came out and understandably had to flush out some bugs.

if you do the firmware update, then reset, calibrate, and train motors. very important!
