The animation represent a close up portion of the sun with the evolution of a prominence during 50 minutes of observation. Images taken with a 100 ed refractor using a Daystar h-alpha filter at a focal of 2400mm.
This time you can see a bright active prominence in the form of a loop above the site of a very large flare, seen on the Sun's limb in H-alpha light. The moviment was very fast so I chose to make short time lapse of 30 seconds with captures of 20s to gain few more valid frames because of the seeing. Looking at the images of SDO in the extreme UV wavelength you can observe the high energy regions of the coronal and see the loop structure of the magnetic field that supports the prominence plasma.
To have a proportion of how big are those structure, let say that we could stack 6 earth to reach the top of the arc.
YouTube Video

PS - I wrote floating because it describe aesthetically what you see in the animation, but should be more correct write that prominence are suspended in the magnetic field detained by the field lines (too long, not enough space ).
