No. It will not work with 8. 8 comes with Windows Defender, their security program for 8.

Thanks Rod. Got a laptop for my wife, it has 8. She is having knee replacement, loves games. Anyhow, I too am going to have to use this goody as well. Lab will need a new pooter soon. All have 8 these days. I would like things to be left alone sometimes, but is progress I suppose. Getting old but still fiddling, won't stop fiddling. Mike.

And and..... What a song and dance to find this goody. Same stuff is there, its just sort of a "go find it" set up. Everytime they change their OS around. Finding the "Action Center" was a hoot. I could rant on, but, I'm sure I'm late with this as 8 has been out for a while. My dish gets moved, I starve. Mike.

I was an early Win8 adopter, starting last July(?) with the Customer Preview then got in early on the first day with the $15 upgrade offer. It ran great on me until about mid-December, then Windows Update broke my laptop and it could no longer boot (just Google Windows Update troubles with Win 8). My last attempt at a successful Win8 build without getting corrupt updates was early-mid January, after which I "upgraded" back to Win7.
As for Defender, it's not bad in Win8, but I had a few reservations, compared to its implementation in Win7. First off, there's no setting to tell it to update itself before a scheduled scan. Another big strike for me is the inability to simply right-click a file or folder and select "Scan". You have to open Defender, select Manual Scan, and manually navigate to the drive or folder in the selection window. Two BIG steps backward. I ultimately wound up running Avast! which works just fine with Win8.
Best of luck with it; MS ruined it for me with their patches and updates. I'll probably either go back to Mac or over to Linux for my next laptop.

Let that be a lesson to you,..... wait. I have waited, but, if you want (need) a new computer someday, there is no choice. Patches and updates...wait for them as best you can....then move"up"?? or non as needed. Always making it better, aren't they? Anyhow, foogies must adapt. (fowgies, fauxgies, you know...me) Thanks Steve, Mike.

No kidding, except in this case it worked for me until the updates arrived... just opposite of normal.
Win8 really isn't that bad, and does run faster than Win7. And some of the integration, like the ability to "merge" my Hotmail and my Gmail, along with contacts and calendars onto one app screen is very useful. But unless they've got their issues of corrupt files on the Windows Update servers for Win8 fixed, I'm in no hurry to try it again.
