I have just finished building my Observatory, and I'm ready to think about mounting my classic CGE (remember those)to my custom 10" pier. I just got back a return email from the supplier I chose to supply the CGE adapter disc.Wouldn't know it he just sold his last one. Other options are more expensive, and I'd like to keep this cost down as I may move to another mount before long. I'm need a reasonable option.
My pier has the standard "rats cage" on top. The adapter was to connect the Mounts
"pier tower" to the plate on top of the cage. looking at the CGE tripod, It would seem that I could rob the tripod top mount by removing the legs, and bolting it to the pier top plate using exiting holes in this piece.
What do you think? Have many done such a thing?

I think there was a discussion of someone else planning to or actually doing the same thing. If you can solidly attach the tripod head to your rat cage it should all work out fine.
Was the source of the base adapter that was sold out TPIAstro?
It's also not too difficult to machine a suitable adapter plate. If you have a local machine shop I'm sure you can get the basic specs and have one made for a reasonable price.

Yes TPIAstro was the source. He offered to make a custom non anodized adapter for more money, but I'm not sure how long that would take with shipping from Canada. I was hoping to get going very soon. If going the tripod route, I can get mounted up this weekend!
