We're going into our 4th month of continuous cloudy rainy weather. For my 65th birthday my wife offered me a major contribution to what I might want. Astro stuff WAS "up front" in my mind but I have become so disenchanted with the local weather that I revolted and bought a 55" HD/3D TV with surround sound instead and I can enjoy that EVERY day. Now that I have it, the weather should clear within a week or so, but now I feel I have "gotten even".

Great--this is not an either or, but 'both.' We all should have a large High Def television, and some nice telescope stuff.

Now you can take stereoscopic images with 2 telescopes set on opposite sides of the earth and see them on your 3D TV

Family Guy and South Park are really nice on a big screen HD TV
Next best thing to a nice clear night...a few beers and pizza with your favourite show when it's cloudy

I'd love to see the Crab Nebula in 3D, that'd be cool! Kind of like walking amongst the stars....(at least when they get the bugs worked out).

I just added a WD TV Live Streaming Media Player to my entertainment centre. It displays the live images from my Mallincam Universe on my 55" screen.
A few nights ago it was -32 deg C at the observatory. I was sitting in my living room looking at images I would not dreamed of seeing with eyepieces before I started using my Mallincams.
That's what I call getting even.

What pray tell is there on TV worth *BLEEP*? Higher quality technology offering lower and lower quality programming. Plus paying for watching 50% of the time promos and commercials is insanity. Go figger.

Family Guy and South Park ? You're kidding right ?
In the good ol days we had 2 through 13 , or 7 channels total . It seemed you could find something on that might have been entertaining . But now with 150 channels , it's pretty much nothin but garbage . Oh , the occasional History channel , Science channel etc programming can be fun and actually educational , and Fox News , if you can handle the truth and haven't drank too much Kool Aid already would be worthy of time but other than that , little bang for the buck is provided .

When it is cloudy and I am not working I enjoy my big screen TV. There are quite a few decent programs on Dish on the Universe. But, if I happen to come across an old episode of "King of the Hill" that I haven't seen before (or maybe only once)" then...

It was pretty great that time the local PBS ran the entire Dr. Who series beginning with the original Dr. Who and all the way thru Tom Baker (who was the current one at the time, wow, was it THAT long ago?).

Yeah, that's why we bought our 60", well except for the Playstation. We cut the cable a few years ago, but we do love to watch movies in high def.

I downloaded about 300 of the super high-def Hubble photos onto my iMac and use AppleTV to watch them on my TV. Spectacular.
