Larry,

I would guess that at least Serial numbers 200, 225 & 250 were sold as requested numbers. That means about 45 are left to be made.

This is a question that should be directed to Questar. We can only speculate. I think the last answer I saw from a query to Jim R. was less than 2 dozen.

It would be pretty neat to own the last 50th ever made.

There was one for sale last month on AM. The seller mentioned that if you ordered a new one today they couldn't guarantee the 1/10 min pv. Can anyone confirm this?

Questar has always been able to deliver this level of quality to it's customers if they so desired. In the 50th it is guaranteed and included in the price. In regular production there are quite a few this good to, though not guaranteed. For that reassurance you pay a little extra.

When I startested my Q7 it was better than 1/10th wave. The Zygo interferometer confirmed that later. I have startested older Q 3 1/2's that were of this level of quality too. They were regular production optics. Have not seen or tested recent Q 3 1/2's, so I cannot comment on those.

Last year I had asked Questar about ordering a Q7 with 1/10 min optics and they said they wouldn't do it fyi.

Thanks for the update. In that case one might choose to buy used and startest before finalizing the deal.

Well that would be a departure from previous years. When I purchased my Astro 7 from C7, I was told that they could write a contract for a specified PV error - for extra $$. Standard offering is "diffraction limited" i.e. 1/4 wave (all four surfaces), though placard in C7 museum stated that many exceed this. The expectation for a standard 3.5Q is 1/8 wave but I don't know if that is still guaranteed.

Q 50 #222 delivered in June from Company Seven.
I did not request any special number

Gordon made the comment about it would be neat to get the last one produced. The problem is that serial number 250 was sold in the first year on a special request for that serial number, so the last one might be SN 249. JM's serial number would mean around 27 might still be available. The first 50th came out in 2001 and that makes them sell at about 18 per year (with many selling in the first 5 years). I would say that all 250 will probably sell out in about another 2 years. Then it will be ready for a 75th model.

JM, you got a great number (remember the TV show Room 222).

Bill

I got my 50th a couple of months ago and the sequential serial number was 50244.

on 3/2012 SN 199 was delivered

on 3/2012 Jim R at Questar estimated 2 dozen left

on 6/2013 SN 222 was delivered through Company 7

on 8/2013 SN 244 was delivered

Your guess is as good as it gets unless you call Questar.

Bill
