Aluminum frame roll off roof observatory DIY help
      #5668725 - 02/08/13 11:04 AM

I am looking over the internet to find somewhere that sells aluminum frame pieces (or a set for a finished product) to build a Pier-tech like observatory. Has anyone already done this research and come up with answers/vendors for the parts and process?

I suspect it could be done for much less than purchasing a unit from Pier-Tech but I really don't know.

I'll keep on searching but I thought I would reach out to the astronomy community here as well.

Thanks,

Rob

Try a search for "extruded aluminum".

What I would like to know is what thickness the sheet metal is on a building like a pier-tech.

I'd build it like a pole barn... I don't think you need to match their thickness or anything.

Allied Steel uses 24 gauge sheet metal for siding on their metal buildings.

Ouch. They're okay for small quantities, but a local metals yard that sells by the pound at commodity pricing is better for large quantities.
