Hello everyone,
this week-end I went to the observatory and shot a short video... I spent the evenings this week editing it and then I uploaded it to Youtube...
Here you go with the link :

Thanks a lot for the nice comments.
Apart from the garage door opener I used an electronic interface (relay box) I can control remotely to open/close the roof.
Best regards, Cédric

Very nice. I do a fair amount of video work myself. What kind of jib did you use for the vertical pans? Those came out very nice. What did you shoot that with too? Very nice DOF effects.

Hi rimcrazy,
thanks for the comment. I shot it with :
Canon 550d, Sigma 30mm 1.4 (short DOP and nice bokeh with that one) Sigma 17-70mm 2.8
The jib is DIY. It cost only 30 dollars to build! I followed this tutorial to build it:

I love it. That is very cool. As obvious from your shots you can get very good results with that. What a great hack. I will have to make myself one of these. Thanks for the link. I shoot with a 7D. Love my Canon. My observatory is coming along. My dome arrives from Technical Innovations on Monday. I'm still probably a few months away from "first light" as there are lots of loose ends to tie up.
Do you have any problems with that exposed chain in the weather? That was the only thing I noticed that kind of surprised me. Perhaps you don't get snow in your area.
Again, a very nice job, both on the video and your observatory.

Excellent! It must have taken a long time to make that movie and you did a great job on it.
I enjoyed the music too. I am not familiar with that song but it sounds like the band named Yes.

bouffetout : Thanks for the comment. I like your nickname ;-)
Mirzam : Thanks a lot. Musics are (in order) :
Intro - The XX Mercury - John Murphy Broke my eyes - Donkeyboy Mars - Nick Ingman
rimcrazy : Canon DSLR are really amazing for shooting videos. I love mine too. I'm sure you'll love your beautiful dome too when it arrives home. Take some pictures of it as soon as you have it installed !
LoveChina61 : Thanks !!! I shot it over last week-end, it took me less than two hours to shoot but I spent something like 15 hours on editing (I'm not a good editor but I did what I could).
Thanks all. Best regards, Cedric

Starhwk : Thanks a lot for the comment. I am planning to shoot more this summer. If you like this kind of videos let me inform you that a friend of mine is a documentary director and together we made a movie called "Ces fous d'astronomie", which can be translated by "Astronomy maniacs". It's 52mn (we shot 85 hours to make it !!!). It will be launched in France on April this year. We are planning to get it translated into English (with subtitles) if we believe there is a market outside France for it. I would love to sell this DVD in the US, UK... because I'm sure people will love it. If you are interested and/or know people who might be interrested, please let me know !
Wmacky : I'm very happy you liked it ! Thanks.
