Always nice to see somebody make the effort of sketching such an awesome object - wish I could do it half as good as you, Daniel.

+1

That an off-white color was noted for A (is that right?) is something I'll look for next time.

Great job, Daniel! I've never attempted sketching with my binoculars. Do you have a photo of your set up with the mirror?

erix i don't use a mirror, i have my paper on a clipboard, sketch at the eyepiece -binos on P mount & pencils etc on chair next to me, i work on the shading often inside after making a outline of it & then re-check back at the eyepiece

Todd the off white colur is not for A, but for B (the dimmest)-which is the bottom star in my sketch (probably on top for you)

Great sketch, Daniel !!

Happy Birthday,Erika!

Erika, having admired your sublime artistic talents for a few years now, aside from your role as moderator,I can easily understand why you were so particularly "drawn" to this thread ! :-)

Hope you enjoy a special day !

I think you did a great job. I would be proud of that sketch. I have never tried black paper, looks very nice. Being new to sketching I am amazed how much more detail I see when I try to draw what I see.

Ken

Daniel, I'm sorry, I must have misread your original post and thought you used a mirror under the binoculars for observing. I know that some people do for comfort and ease while sketching and observing. Again, very well done!

Kenny, thank you.

Thanks. In my mind's eye, I flipped your sketch the wrong way. All I had to do was vertically flip my computer screen.

Looks like I should get a higher power binocular. (Too bad the Celestron Skymaster 25x70 won't/can't be an option.)

I like it, the effort was worth it.When I try sketching I just get frustrated. I'll have to try it again.

Daniel,

Well done wide field sketch of M42/43. I've done many binocular sketches but never one of the Great Orion Nebula. Keep up the good work.

I think that more than a few of us were confused by Daniel's alien southern hemishere perspective. Nice job Daniel.

An alien southern hemisphere perspective would be like from Syrtis Major or the Hellas Basin. Daniel's perspective is just from Oz.
