Thought people might enjoy a couple of early (and extremely cool) videos of the meteorite that apparently airburst over Russia.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e686-i7woR4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIMKQihoYRI
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qch-pIEgf44&feature=player_embedded#!
Edit - It doesn't appear to exploded after all, despite the headlines and the bright flash. Apparently what's on the videos is the shockwave from its flight path. Crazy.

Thanks for sharing! There's always the speculation of its connection with 2012-DA14 Still, watching the various dash cams and security cams coming out of Russia, I have to say it's quite a somber reminder of the cosmic billiard game that we're right in the middle of ...
wow , check out this on the ground video footage of the shockwave blasting out windows!

Nice video. These are easily the best meteor/meteorite videos I've ever seen, and I'm sure there's many more to come. And it's probably the most significant event to occur in a long time. Very exciting, but hopefully nobody was seriously injured or killed. I know they're saying a section of roof collapsed at a factory, I think.

I've seen a few reports of that, but we all know it didn't happen. I'm willing to bet that is just random speculation from people.
Here is another video that's a compilation. The moving shadows on two of them towards the end look like time lapse videos. Amazing.

Edit - So as to not multipost, here is a blog with a lot of photos and videos. Some hoaxes have been appearing (like the flaming pit), so just be aware.

Russia's Emergency ministry said some fragments fell near the town of Satka, about 200 kilometers (120 miles) from the regional capital city of Chelyabinsk. About 60 people were wounded by meteorite fragments...

I so wish I was there to experience that, even if it would have meant getting injured with flying glass or something. And I would so definitely be out there trying to collect if I was in the area and able.
I'm looking forward to hearing the expert analysis of this thing once the video footage has been digested and samples collected. It really could provide a lot of good observational information regarding this type of thing.

Beware any meteorites being offered for sale from this new fall - they are probably fakes. It will take some time before genuine specimens show up on the collector market, if they do at all.
There are a few respected Russian meteorite dealers. I am contacting them now to find out what the laws are in Russia regarding this, and if any specimens have been found yet.
One lesson here - we need to keep funding our sky-watch programs.

Technically, while it was "over Russia" it was a meteor. The bits that hit the ground, though, became meteorites. It did partially come apart at some point as there are bits and pieces being reported around the region.
In any case, very cool...that they believed it was a meteor, I mean. We were worried when that top secret test missile went haywire shortly after launch.

Yeah, I knew someone would come in and correct that. I honestly couldn't be bothered to change the terminology. Can't be bothered now, either. A mod can edit it if they want - I really don't care.
On a better note...

A good way for people to keep this straight is that the "-ite" ending is what geologists use to identify minerals: pyrite, anthracite, quartzite, etc. A meteorite is a mineral specimen from space.

The city (Chelyabinsk) just happened to be one of Russia's military cities, and one of its two nuclear weapon research and production sites (Sarov is the other).

This bolide weighed 7000 tons according to NASA. About 30% of the Sikhote-Alin meteor was recovered (30 tons out of an estimated 100 tons). If they can approach that recovery rate then there is a lot of meteor material that can go on the market.
The rate won't be that high since Sikhote-Alin was iron, and easy to identify. But still, it is winter and rocks on snow or ice are easy to notice.
Really weird that all four of the largest known falls over land in the past 200 years or so are all in high Northern latitudes, and 3 in Siberia (Tunguska 1908, Sikhote-Alin 1947, Chelyabinsk 2013, and Whitehorse 2000.)

This is the New Russia! Everything is for sale if the right authority gets a cut.
There will be hundreds of tons of material recovered from this rock.

I find it rather interesting also that there`s been 3 large events occurring over Siberia. Any information yet on the type of meteorite that it was ? and will it officially be named Chelyabinsk ?

Well this just came on RIANOVOSTI
“This meteorite is an ordinary chondrite, it is a stony meteorite which contains some 10 percent of iron. It is most likely to be named Chebarkul meteorite,” Grohovsky said.

Chelyabinsk was a closed city as recently as 1994. The entire area is loaded with Soviet-era military facilities and nuclear sites. It is also one of the most contaminated places on Earth and the site of the terrible (but little-known) Kyshtym nuclear disaster. Much of the area is completely off-limits to foreigners or highly-radioactive. There is a better than even chance that very little or none of this meteorite will make it to the collector market outside Russia. I hope I am wrong and I would love to have a piece, but I am not holding my breath until I see more recoveries. Right now, if the supposed recoveries are indeed confirmed, then TKW is very small. Of course, this could change at any moment if a large mass is found or if many more smaller stones are found.

So far I have seen images of only one single tiny fragment recovered from the ice cover of the lake. This does not bode well for public recovery of extensive material.

http://astrobob.areavoices.com/2013/02/18/scientists-study-53-tiny-meteorites...
See that link for some great up-close photos of the recovered fragments.
This is obviously an L or H chondrite of some sort, probably an L5 or H5, from the lack of plentiful chondrules, highly-recrystallized nature of the visible matrix, and the crust appearance. It's also apparently shocked enough to produce plentiful dark shock veins, which are visible in these photos and a few other photos I have seen. This reminds me a lot of Park Forest in visual appearances.
Now that we know this (that the body was chondritic in nature), there is expected to be MUCH more material on the ground than what has been announced as "recovered" so far. Expect to see "new" specimens trickle out onto the market (institutional and private) as anonymous finders bring their finds to market over time. There are already reports of larger recovered masses being secretly held by finders who are waiting for "top dollar" to offer their pieces.
So, I think we will see this meteorite available on the collector market at some point in the near future, but I bet it will not be cheap. I expect it to be an expensive fall to acquire, based on the circumstances surrounding it (mass media attention, major damages, etc) and the history of comparable meteorites on the market in the past.
Many questions still remain - what is the petrology and chemistry of this particular meteorite, what is the parent body (if any known), what was it's exact orbit, and what (if any) anomalous characteristics it may have.
This the kind of exciting thing that makes meteorites so interesting - and this is good stuff from that perspective. Meteorite nuts like myself live for these events. And thank our lucky stars that nobody was killed - and that makes this entire story a little more positive and not quite so foreboding. Because this is also a stark reminder of how precious and precarious our position on this planet is.
Best regards and clear skies,
MikeG

A warning to the overly-eager collector :
I just checked eBay (USA ebay site, not the various international eBay sites) for fragments of the Chebarkul/Chelyabinsk meteorite.
I did see a handful of listings for items offered as pieces of this meteorite, but I would not feel confident in bidding on any of them. Some are obvious fakes (from the photos provided) and the few with good photos were from unknown sellers with short feedback histories and scant details in the listings. Also, the photos were obviously borrowed from official media reports and do not show any original photos of the material apparently being offered.
In other words, it's still a little too soon to trust anything being offered on the major auction sites. When we see specimens from known or trustworthy sources, then I'd feel more confident in acquiring some. Things to look for - IMCA credentials, Meteoritical Society membership, longevity in the meteorite community with a history of reliable offerings, sources well-known to veteran collectors, etc.
There is always the chance that some random person local to the fall area will register as a new user on eBay and offer a genuine piece of the meteorite with some blurry photos and a description that is lacking in many ways. A buyer just might get lucky. And that kind of thought is what every internet scammer preys upon. The odds don't look good enough yet for this collector/dealer.
Buyer beware at this point.

Here's the Russian site http://www.avito.ru/chelyabinsk/kollektsionirovanie?name=%D0%BC%D0%B5%D1%82%D... that offers fragments. Some sellers admit they are not sure what they are selling. For example this listing http://www.avito.ru/chelyabinsk/kollektsionirovanie/aeto_meteor_esli_da_to_zh... states:
"Is it a meteor, if "yes" I am waiting for your offer" Of course it is not a "meteor" :-) , and not a meteorite either.
And now I checked out EBAY auctions.
For example, this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Meteorite-Russia-Cheljabinsk-Chebarkul-15-02-2013-/33... is not a meteorite, an least not a stony one. I sent PM to the guy who sells it, but I doubt he will remove the auction.

From a New York Times article from today's paper:
"M3-Media, a financial news site, reported that under Russian law a person can gain legal title to a meteorite, but only if it is reported to the authorities and submitted to a laboratory for tests. The laboratory will charge 20 percent of the estimated value of the object for certification, the site reported, citing the Russian Academy of Sciences."
"But this is Russia, so the excitement became tinged with anxiety on Monday as unknown cars appeared, cruising the streets and bearing men who refused to answer questions but offered stacks of rubles worth hundreds, then thousands, of dollars for the fragments. Strangely, no authorities were anywhere in sight."
The second paragraph recalls a comment I made a few days ago on this thread to the effect that everything is for sale in the New Russia, as long as the appropriate authorities get a cut. These mysterious men no doubt have arranged the necessary "understandings".

The NYT has a history of printing misinformation and bias against the private meteorite community. This has been addressed at length, in another forum, by most veteran members of the meteorite collector world.
This same article was brought up on that mailing list again today, and it is currently being discussed there - again. (*sigh*)
The rules are a little looser on that mailing list, and I can be a little looser with my words there than here, but here are some relevant excerpts from my rebuttals to the NYT errors and misrepresentations :
Quote:
The NYT is...the same publication that put out that hit-piece against meteorites last year where all of us were declared as a "black market" of illegal activity. It was little else besides slanderous statements, half-truths, and propaganda...
I recall the IMCA even wrote an official statement to rebut the lies and errors in the NYT article. You know an article is really really bad when the meteorite community feels it necessary to put together and release an official rebuttal.
Of course, this NYT article will get picked up by tons of news wires and aggregators who will republish and churn it back out endlessly. While it's new, unknowing people will repost and "like" or "recommend" the article on Facebook, further spreading the misinformation via social media. It's like a dirty...virus and I'm sure I won't be the only one today playing "damage control" on Facebook with this latest NYT torpedo-job.
This type of event is what makes me excited to wake up every morning and be involved in some small way with the world of meteorites and meteoritics. It's the reason almost everyone reading this is a member of a mailing-list like this - because Cherbarkul is what meteorite falls are all about. This is good good stuff and I loathe to see another rehash of the slanderous BS put out into the media. So if you are reading this, and later on you see a discussion in a forum/list/site somewhere about this event and somebody is quoting or referencing these error-filled NYT articles - please chime in politely but firmly and correct the misconceptions. It will be tedious, but it's necessary.
and ...
Quote:
The problem is, there are a few bad apples in the meteorite world. But they are an extreme minority in relation to the greater numbers of reputable and decent people involved with meteorites. That is true for every group of people on Earth, no matter how big or small. If one chooses to be biased, selective, and narrowly-focus on a single negative anecdote, then anything can be made to look bad. The art of the "spin"....
I tried to edit my comments to bring them into compliance with Cloudy Night's TOS. I hope I succeeded while getting message across.
Best regards,
MikeG
PS - in other words, private meteorite collecting and trading is NOT illegal and is far from it.

Mike:
Good comments - I am also surprised that the NYT once again printed "trade in material from meteorites is largely illegal" - which is absolutely false.
I wrote a letter when the first NYT article was published which has since been widely circulated between scientists, collectors, and dealers - and for those who are interested - you can read it here:

I have also referenced the relevant laws on my website:

Has there been any estimation of the size and/or speed of the chunk that made the hole in the ice?
Is there a realistic chance of recovering any of it?
It will be interesting to see the strewn field map.

Preliminary classification is ready - LL5 chondrite with a shock rating of 4.
It hasn't been officially approved by Met Soc yet, but this is the first step. I expect official approval will come quick on this one, given the global attention it captured.
Stay tuned.

I have had an opportunity to see samples of the Chelyabinsk meteorite. I think that these stones are almost as distinctive as the fireball was spectacular. Many samples have deep fractures. Many samples have patches of reddish fusion crust. The reddish crust may be secondary crust. It formed on broken surfaces or perhaps in the lower portions of regmaglypts. The reddish crust is smoother than the primary crust. Some samples have a brownish "dusty" appearance. Despite being freshly collected. Here are some images of the sample in my collection:

Nice stone Peter. Thanks for sharing it. I am very anxious to receive mine.
Other news, the meteorite is official today :
Quote:
Writeup from MB 101:
Chelyabinsk 54°49’N, 61°07’E (approximate centroid)
Chelyabinskaya oblast’, Russia
Fell: 15 Feb 2013; 3:22 UT
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL5)
History: At 9:22 a.m. (local time) on February 15, 2013, a bright fireball was seen by numerous residents in parts of the Kurgan, Tyumen, Ekaterinburg and Chelyabinsk districts. Images of the fireball were captured by many video cameras, especially in Chelyabinsk. Residents of the Chelyabinsk district heard the sound of a large explosion. The impact wave destroyed many windows in Chelyabinsk and surrounding cities. Many people were wounded by glass fragments. A part of the roof and a wall of a zinc plant and a stadium in Chelyabinsk were also damaged. Numerous (thousands) stones fell as a shower around Pervomaiskoe, Deputatsky and Yemanzhelinka villages ~40 km S of Chelyabinsk. The meteorite pieces were recovered and collected out of snow by local people immediately after the explosion. The snow cover was about 0.7 m deep. The falling stones formed holes surrounded by firn snow. Largest stones reached the frozen soil. A stone may have broken the ice of Chebarkul Lake, located 70 km W of Chelyabinsk. Small meteorite fragments were found around the 8 m hole in the ice but divers did not find any stones on the lake bottom.
Physical characteristics: The meteorite stones and fragments are from <1 g to 1.8 kg in weight and from a few mm to 10 cm (mainly 3-6 cm) in size. The total mass collected by local people is certainly >100 kg and perhaps > 500 kg. Fusion crusted stones are common. The fusion crust is black or brown and fresh. Broken fragments are rare. The interior of the stones is fresh but in some pieces there is evidence for weak oxidation of metal grains.
Petrography: (D.D. Badyukov and M.A. Nazarov, Vernad). The majority (2/3) of the stones are composed of a light-colored lithology with a typical chondritic texture. Chondrules (~63%) are readily delineated and set within a fragmental matrix. The mean chondrule diameter is 0.93 mm. The chondrule glass is devitrified. The main phases are olivine and orthopyroxene. Olivine shows mosaicism and planar fractures. Rare grains of augite and clinobronzite are present. Small and rare feldspar grains show undulutory extinction, planar deformation features, and are partly isotropic. Troilite (4 vol.%) and FeNi metal (1.3 vol.%) occur as irregularly shaped grains. Accessory minerals are chromite, ilmenite, and Cl-apatite. A significant portion (1/3) of the stones consist of a dark, fine-grained impact melt containing mineral and chondrule fragments. Feldspar is well developed and practically isotropic. No high-pressure phases were found in the impact melt. There are black-colored thin shock veins in both light and dark lithologies.
Geochemistry: (M.A. Nazarov, N.N. Kononkova, and I.V. Kubrakova, Vernad). Mineral chemistry: Olivine Fa 27.9±0.35, N=22; orthopyroxene Fs22.8±0.8Wo1.30±0.26, N=17; feldspar Ab86; chromite Fe/Fe+Mg=0.90, Cr/Cr+Al=0.85 (at.%). Major element composition of the light lithology (XRF, ICP-AS, wt%): Si=18.3, Ti=0.053, Al=1.12, Cr=0.40, Fe=19.8, Mn=0.26, Ca=1.43, Na=0.74, K=0.11, P=0.10, Ni=1.06, Co=0.046, S=1.7. Atomic ratios of Zn/Mn × 100=1.3, Al/Mn=8.8. The impact melt lithology has almost the same composition but it is distinctly higher in Ni, Zn, Cu, Mo, Cd, W, Re, Pb, Bi (ICP-MS).
Classification: Ordinary chondrite (LL5), shock stage S4, weathering W0.
Specimens: About 400 stones weighing 3.5 kg in total and a few thin sections are in Vernad.

Judging from the appearance of the various fragments, rounded objects with some intact and some fractured, I am of the opinion the meteorite was a collection of rounded pieces somehow held together until it entered the Earth's atmosphere.
Are these typical of this type fall?

Hi John,
I have never read of any way to create rounded rocks in space. My assumption is that the Chelyabinsk meteorite was a large rock that broke apart in our atmosphere. The various fragments were then shaped by further passage thru the atmosphere. There has never been a witnessed meteorite fall of a stone that was as energetic as the Chelyabinsk fall so we are in virgin territory now.
Thanks,
Peter

For those of us who are not experienced meteorite collectors, can someone suggest where I should be looking to find Chebarkul specimens?

Hi Careysub,
I have purchased about a dozen samples from both US and Russian dealers. My only advice is to buy from an experienced dealer. If you are looking at an offering please feel free to ask us if we think it is a legitimate offer. If you are looking for an inexpensive sample Galactic Stone & Ironworks would be a safe source.
Thanks,
Peter

Some of the meteorites have a distinct reddish hue to the fusion crust in areas. Does anyone know what this is? Rust?

PBS' NOVA this week is about the Chelyabinsk meteor.
You can watch on line:
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/earth/meteor-strike.html
Good show, a little sensationalist in places; shows some of the meteorites that were collected within weeks of the fall. Some of the SEM micrographs suggest why this meteor produced "peas."

I haven't added many specimens to my meteorite collection this past year but I did manage to pick up two very small individuals from this momentous event. Here is the first, a crusted pea with flow lines from Rob Elliott: http://www.flickr.com/photos/48082563@N08/8611656465/in/photostream

Thanks for the kind words Carol and I'm glad you were able to pick up a nice micro! I think anyone purchasing this fall right now, myself included, are paying a premium to have the most pristine pieces although the prices have been trending way down as material floods in. My first piece cost a whooping $70 a gram but it does have some nice flowlines and evidence of orientation as well as rock solid provenance. A couple of weeks later, I picked up my second stone, also a fresh and complete individual, for around $25 a gram. I predict $10 a gram by years end but I am still happy to have a couple of the early specimens from this incredible fall and have no regrets about my purchases.

I plead senior citzien, and can't remember the title of the show. But yesterday and today the local PBS stations have been showing a new NOVA show on the Russian Meteorite.
I would have preferred a show at college science level, with some detailed science. but it's at high-school level. So they skipped over the how of the science, and went to the conclusions. Still, I learned some. For example, the asteroid did not hit the Earth. The Earth hit the asteroid.
And, nope, no new fantastic video footage. On a grade school level, I learned I would like a job creating sound effects of meteors hitting the Earth!

Yes, a very nice little meteorite! Do you have an image of the second one? EBAY prices are down. Some are around $10 per gram.

Thank you for the the compliment. My second specimen is en route from a reliable Russian source and I will post a photo as soon as it arrives. And it appears that the price has dropped to $10 a gram much quicker than many thought, likely the result of a flooded market. I believe it was Mike Farmer who commented that this fall has the potential to produce as much or more than the Gao fall so I expect material will continue to be found for years to come.

Hi Oblako,
The auction in your first link is for a beautiful oriented meteorite. If it was a larger sample I would bid on it.
The second link is most likely a legitimate meteorite it looks as if it is mostly melt (formally known as impact melt). The melt samples are not as pretty, however they are less common.
Thanks,
Peter

Cheesy is exactly why the Little-Pink-Boy in me (maturity level age 7 or so) is impressed and wants to have a job making them!
It's my cross to bear: every TV show or even channel that I like on an intellectual level, over time has moved down 30 IQ points. Adding sound effects to what was obviously silent footage such as war shots is part of the problem. That is one reason I like Mythbusters: they started off 30 IQ points down to begin with, and they always blow something at the end. No sound effects needed.
Back to the topic, meteorites and the Russian Meteor. I have never collected meteors. I have some meteorite material? oxide? I bought when I was about 10 years old in 1961 at Meteor Crater Arizona, and that's all I have. This event has perked my interest. Growing up some neighbors had a chunk that was supposed to be a meteor, metallic, fist sized, and looked like one, but who knows?

Hi Peter, thanks for your comment.
If you are to scroll down at this ended auction http://www.ebay.com/itm/Very-Rare-and-Unique-Chelyabinsk-Meteorite-6-Grams-Ca... you will see a very nice oriented meteorite. BTW did you bid for this one? The shape of the one I linked to earlier does look like a meteorite with a roll-over lips, but the fusion crust looks rather funny. As a matter of fact I have not seen any Chelyabinsk meteorite or any other meteorite for that matter that looks like that. The other one has no fusion crust but lot's of sharp edges. I'd be surprised, if it were a meteorite.
Thanks.

Hi Steven,
Your little crater specimen is a keeper. Back in the day, Nininger sold a lot of souvenirs and touristy items to help keep his work going. In that respect, Nininger was a pioneer in many ways. He was one of the first commercial meteorite dealers to offer affordable specimens to the general public. Up until Harvey starting doing that, only a few advanced collectors with deep pockets indulged in meteorite collecting. And he caught a lot of flack for it from some old-guard elements of the scientific community....heck, we still see some of that today, although the situation has improved since Nininger's time.
At any rate, keep that original crater souvenir oxide. If it has any kind of display card, specimen card, packaging, flyer, brochure, or receipt - keep those also. Anything Nininger-related is very desirable to some collectors.
FWIW, I have been on a quest for a couple of years now to acquire one of Robert Burnham Jr's meteorites from his personal collection. It is well known that Burnham collected meteorites and had a special fondness for pallasites. I would give my right arm for one of them. Sometimes the value of specimen has much more to do with provenance than the meteorite itself.
Best regards and clear skies,
MikeG

Hi Oblako,
The crust on these meteorites varies greatly. Some rocks exhibit the "classic" black fusion crust. Some have "bubbly" crust. Some have areas of a dusty reddish crust. Some have a black flaky crust. Here is a photo of a sample that has the flaky crust:

Hi Oblako,
My take on the second auction that you linked to is that the sample is perhaps a 50% fusion crusted broken individual of the melt lithology. It is hard to tell for sure since the photos are not as good as I would like to see. Some one here should purchase it so we can know for sure. Any takers?
Thanks,
Peter

Peter and Mike G. Of course my 1961-ish Meteor Crater piece was sitting on my desk for a few years, and now it's somewhere else--but where? It's around somewhere. It is about the 1/2" in some dimensions, very irregular, glued on a small card about 2" x 3". The Card has the site name and some info. When I find it, I'll put it up here.

The small piece arrived some days ago. I've taken some pictures of the specimen and also new pictures of the first specimen.
I'll link to them tom keep the quality of the pictures.
First the small specimen:
Small specimen 1
Small specimen 2
Small specimen 3
Small specimen 4
A little larger specimen 1
A little larger specimen 2
A little larger specimen 3
A little larger specimen 4
-------
BTW: It seems that most of the specimens coming to sale at the moment shows signs of oxidation. Is that a correct observation? See this example here Finland Spectrolite and Meteorites sales list

Lars,
Those are some nice specimens, congrats! As for your question, it might be difficult to tell in this case since oxidation can occur during the ablation process and it may not be the result of terrestrial weathering if it is simply a brown tinted fusion crust. Svend's article is excellent for those who haven't already read it:

Lars, I believe we cannot talk about oxidation because we even do not know when they were collected. They could have been collected a month or so ago. Also it would have been very interesting to find out, if meteorites are still found. The temperature in Chelyabinsk is around 50F. The snow should be gone. I am not sure many stones will be found now because it was easier to find them in the snow. People were looking for small holes, and there were meteorites. I do not know what could have prevented them from finding most of them back then. Of course the snow was deep, but one always could use ski.

Some interesting statistics of the meteorite:
This article http://blogs.suntimes.com/arts_entertainment/2013/04/field_museum_lands_russi... states: "The Chelyabinsk meteorite was 24,250,848 pounds when it hurtled to Earth."
This article http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-field-musem-meteorite-2...,0,3854116.story states that the biggest stone found so far weights 1.8 kilograms.
This article http://rbth.ru/society/2013/03/19/chelyabinsk_meteorite_mystery_revealed_2403... states that "No more than 10 percent of the meteor’s initial weight actually hit the surface."
And some of my EBAY personal observation. It looks like EBAY prices went up again, and it looks like some sellers selling different meteorites trying to present them as Chelyabinsk.

I saw a sample last night under a stereo microscope. Our new club president, who is a serious meteorite collector, showed the samples he has purchased at the Open House. The metal inclusions in a fractured piece had the look of iron pyrite crystals, possibly from the shock of the explosion.
He also has a "meteor wrong" collection he shows the public with a meteorite in the collection. The object is to find the meteorite amongst the collection. This collection contains earth rocks and minerals that are commonly mistaken for meteorites.

Very nice meteorites, Michael!
Today I decided to take an image of my 24.7 grams oriented Chelyabinsk meteorite with some nice background, so we went to a cliff, which is overlooking Pacific. My choice of the background has exceeded my expectations. There were some whales feeding close to the shore. The image is a combination of two images taken from the same place at the same time.

Ah, I see you'd like to hear the whole story OK then, here it is: I tried a different backgrounds with my Chelyabinsk. At one point I took a flight to the center of Milky Way Galaxy, where I snapped this shot:

It was then, when I met my friends, the ones from my prior images, and brought them with me to the Earth. Still I kept looking for a more exotic background, and decided to try to take a picture of my meteorite flying over the Sun:

As you see I placed it very carefully in order do not close sunspots.
Meantime the friends I brought down to the Earth from my trip to the center of Milky Way got accustomed here on the Earth, and they told me that in the entire Universe there's no place as beautiful as the Earth, and then they advised me the place to take an image of my stone. They even kindly offered to hold it for me, and probably used their supernatural abilities to bring whales into the picture.
So now you know about my struggles and how it all ended up.
All images were taken by me and combined in a photo shop.
