I was searching Ebay and noticed Highpoint Scientific had these listed so I checked the main website which is the link I provided. After that I noticed the shipping cost was less than half as much at their Ebay store so I would check there 1st.
I really didn't need a new diagonal. I have a Celestron with XLT coating I bought used last year but for the price this is a great deal I couldn't pass. I'll probably sell my Celestron diagonal for about half of the $159 this deal cost me

I finally got to see the 24mm UWA/DiagonalAdaptor I ordered 3 weeks or so ago. I was on travel, so I couldn't go out and play. :-( So far, what I see looks very good and well built. Friday I will be able to test the kit out. This was an amazing deal. Now, where is my 14" LX850...

tried my 24mm in my 10"F7.2 dob and my Omni 120 refractor, it is one excellent eyepiece giving that spacewalk feel, sharp and contrasty and very comfortable. Unlike most I like the eyecup on these Meade eyepieces.

I actually liked the eyecup as well. I found it very comfortable and the ability to adjust the height was very nice. However, the weight of the eyepiece was a problem on my refractor so I removed it and replaced it with a lighter adjustable eyeshield. This reduced the weight of the eyepiece by about 20%.

Perhaps Meade is trying to unload their remaining 24mm UWA eyepieces because they are switching to the waterproof line. With the 24mm ES82 at $199 - and waterproof - Meade really can't be moving too many of their 24mm UWA at the normal price of $249.

I'll be truthful, my ES82 24mm is the older, nonwaterproof version.....and I'd not trade it even for a newer version.......

I finally had a chance to test out the new 2" Diagonal & 24mm UWA.
Quick comments: -- Views with the 24mm UWA were simply amazing under the skies of New Mexico. For pure observing this seems to be the way to go. I do have a new HD-60 set which I really like too, but now I can see I will need a few more UWA eyepieces. -- I really like the 2" diagonal - works great with all my eyepieces. BUT the top barrel that holds the eye piece I notice rotates around freely and has some very slight play to it. Everything seems ok, but is this normal? Otherwise it seems fine. -- Big negative/lesson learned: MIND THE CLEARANCE! As my 10" LX200 Classic was moving suddenly things jammed and came to literally a grinding halt: the eyepiece, diagonal, fitting could not clear the base and jammed up! Instant panic set in! Gears made nasty sounds - heart went through my throat! After killing the power (and not killing the scope) and a thorough inspection all is well (and no apparent visual damage either, whew). Moral of the story - mind your clearances! And yes, the eyepiece and diagonal CAN clear if in only 2 particular orientations (eyepiece parallel to the base of the fork). Otherwise - CRUNCH!

What is the largest diameter of the body of the 24mm UWA?
I have a couple of very big and heavy 2" EP, but I don't use them very much due to their large size and weight.
The bargain hunter in me says 'buy it' though.

that SCT adapter that came with the diagonal and eyepiece has an extension screwed into it. Unscrew that extension and you might have the clearance then. Bob

It's easy to slim down the Meade UWA and reduce its weight by 20% and still have an adjustable eyeshield. See...

Thinking about the deal, but I'm wondering about the quality of the diagonal.
Anyone have a guess what the flatness of that diagonal might be?
Anyone looked to see how well collimated the diagonal is in their refractor?
Thanks
Dan
