Royal Astro Tokyo LN 6E found...... new
      #5683631 - 02/16/13 02:24 PM Attachment (53 downloads)

Yesterday I found a Royal Astro Tokyo LN 6E on a Dutch sales site.I had never seen one before so it must be quite rare I thought. After a two hour drive I met the seller and bought the thing without hesitation......he had several phone calls during my trip to collect the scope so more people did wanted it.
I have to clean and lubricate some parts and hopefully we have some clear nights next week.It should be a very good telescope for what I have read so far.......
Serial number is L-715024.

Looks cherry. Probably from the 60's early 70's too! Has the same type of threaded on CW's my 20TE has and the same motor box too. Good score. Mike

That's one great find. There was one auctioned last year on Astromart and it's the only one I've ever seen. I have the LN4-E and it's a great scope.

My 4" version of it is an Optica b/c, so they did rebrand them.

@CharlieB nice Optica b/c LN 4E you have there!Great condition by the looks of it.

Thanks for all the thumbs up !.....It seems that in the US they are rare also.Price was around $575 including the drive ( late sixties ).Don't know of this was a high price at the time.

The interesting thing about the pedestal for the 4" is that you can switch out the mount head with any Royal Astro 60mm mount and use it as a pedestal refractor.

In the 1968 Optica b/c catalog, the price for the 6DTC (same as your scope) was listed as $479 plus $75 for the motor drive. That was a lot of money in 1968. As a comparison, the 4" was $196 plus $75 for the clock drive. Their 76mm refractor with a pedestal and clock drive was $752. The 6" observatory refractor was a mere $5,000. I still kick myself for not buying that 6" reflector when is was auctioned.

I was wondering if there were knobs on the levelers on your scope. There were on my 4", but one knob was missing, another was broken and the third was intact. I found some modern replacements that were nearly identical - the knobs were about 1/2" wider. They really make leveling the scope a lot easier.

I've only seen one before for sale here in Japan after three years of looking and it was in terrible shape. Yours is beautiful. Congrats!

After looking a bit closer at the photos of your scope, I noticed the drive motor on your scope is different than the ones in the 1968 Optica b/c catalog. They are, however, exactly like the one in the 1975 Optica b/c catalog, and its catalog designation was LA-150. Also, the price is different in 1971, the scope sold for $1,130, and the price for the motor drive was available upon request! Robert Provin's great site has a 1978 version of this catalog:
