Hello all,
Greetings from a new Member.I hope you're all well?
I have on order for myself a new Televue NP -101 Telescope. However I am needing a Guidescope.I-am tempted by the Televue 60.
I am intrigued by the Televue 60 As a
Guide-scope...however does the Televue60 use Matt Black Flocking Paper internally like the Televue NP-101 or Micro Baffles?
How does the Televue 60 perform?.I hear the Televue 60 has a FPL-53 Doublet?
Many Thanks,as always

FPL-53 is a good guess, but Televue doesn't reveal the glass used in any of their scopes.

For a guide scope you might want to consider the TV60is - TV just discontinued them but it looks like some dealers still have stock and you could probably get one used for ~ under 1k (I did). I'm pretty sure no flocking paper in the 60is (don't have it here in front of me) but no idea about the 60. the 60is is very solid and a lot more versatile than the 60 - but surprisingly heavy!

Hi Doug,
Thanks for the suggestion and input. When you get some free time would you PLEASE be able to inspect your Televue 60 IS and find out for me definitively as to IF the Telvue 60 IS relies on Flocking paper or Micro Baffles?

I don't own a TV-60, but found this: "The TV-60 is much more finely crafted than the ranger too, with a tapered CNC tube that has machined-in micro-baffles in place of the old matt-black sandpaper that lines the Ranger (and the Pronto/TV-76 for that matter)."

The TV-60 does not use the flocking paper in the tube. It uses baffles. To use TV-60 as a finder, you probably need the televue X-Y mounting accessory, as the OTA diameter smoothly shrinks to about less than 2in from objective side to the focuser side. It is not easy to find a pair of finder rings.

Hi BCNGreyCat,
Thank you for your input as well.Would you happen to know if the Televue TV-60 IS also uses Baffles like the Televue TV-60?

Hi Plane_guru,
I only have tv-60 and that's why I know it uses baffle not flocking paper. For the IS version, I guess it uses baffle as well. But I'd leave it to the owner to comment.

since you have a new scope on order from TV, give them a call and see if they cannot answer your question. Or as we say, straight from the horses mouth?

Apologies for taking so long to respond - only now reading the thread.
I checked my 60is carefully and the situation is interesting. The focuser tube indeed has the "emery paper-like" flocking. Where it contacts the tube containing the objective, there is about another 1" wide ring of the flocking paper. The rest of the tube/lens cell leading up to the objective is a series of machined micro baffles. I wonder if the focuser end of the regular 60 also has flocking but difficult to see because of the taper.
FWIW, in addition to the 60is I own a chrome focusing tube TV76, and have owned newer versions of the NP101 and two different TV85s and never had problems with the flocking. The flocking in the 60is looks very solid.
I hope that helps.
Doug

Hi Doug,
The reason i was asking about the Flocking paper in the Televue is due to the fact that i have read of the Flocking Paper peeling and Bubbling in Televue NP-101 Telescopes.
I find it interesting that in the main Tube /body of the Televue TV-60 machined Micro Baffles-are used.
I heard that Televue changed adhesives/Glues recently too for their Flocking Paper?
I reside in a Humid Locale.
Thank you much for your help

Don't know about a flattener for the TV60 but the TV60is comes with a flattener that can be removed. A small adapter (supplied) can then be used to accommodate a 2" diagonal (not supplied with scope) for visual use. The TV60is is designed to be used for imaging and visual use.

Said the elephant to the naked man: "Cute, but can you eat with that thing too?"
Seriously, though, it's cute but a little small. What do you want it for?

With the now discontinued "is" version of the TV60 you can, yes.
