Some shots from the night of the 17th
      #5688733 - 02/19/13 11:49 AM

Hi all,

I took my scope and gear up the road from our house to my favorite spot overlooking the Pacific some 50km to the west.
Seeing was good enough to use the big barlow, but wind cut my session short. Dobs don't work well with wind while imaging.

Catena Abulfeda:

A nice dramatic view of Aristillus deep in shadow with the Valentine dome to the east:

A good view of the Treisnecker rille region:

Janssen and Fabricius (with its bizarre E shaped central peaks)This sequence seemed to have the best seeing.

And lastly the target I was most interested in due to the work of Raf, and Barry which was featured in the Feb 15th LPOD.

I was not even sure if this could be imaged but I was amazed to see it visually with 300X's mag, the shadow the dome cast was very evident! I will try to image it again under a high sun angle to see if the pyroclastic blanket can be detected.

Lots of interesting little features in this image such as Rima Canon a little west of the dome:

hope you like em!

cheers

Mike

As Raf that with Barry have reported the dome (and more in ongoing work) your image was a confirmation of the probes data the same heigth was computed and i was able to use Shape from shadow to obtained a DEM yielding the H of 620 m (in agreement with the LOLA DEM and GLD 100 data set) and the enclosed my 3D reconstruction from your image...
Great really!
Raf

Excellent pictures, Mike.
Your img189 is particularly interesting due to the lpod features described.
Thanks for the views.

The shadow from that dome certainly gives a clue as to why early observers imagined the Moon to be a land of spires and pinnacle peaks! lol

Amazing images! img706 sticks in my mind... The symmetry of a row of craterlets lining up with the edge of the main crater is just crazy. A cosmic underscore if you will....
