Figuring out its eccentricities, etc. It's a beautiful scope. It's very different from anything I have ever had. It is built like a tank and in beautiful condition. It's amazing to think that this scope is 40 years old. There is scarcely a mark on it. It is very heavy. The tube is identical in diameter to a 3 inch Unitron tube. It didn't have a dustcap on the end so a little looking around in the pantry and I came up with a quick fix. A white Styrofoam coffee cup fits exactly in the end and the objective is recessed a good inch beyond the bottom of the cup. The rim of the cup butts up perfectly against the end of the tube and the cup is comfortably snug, not tight, yet not smooth enough to fall out. And you never have to worry about loosing the dust cap because there is an endless supply. I have a very nice vintage Unitron 0.965 diagonal that I put into the 0.965 visual back and I have a nice selection of really good 0.965 eyepieces to use with it. I am wondering if (please don't cringe) if I should order another telrad base to use with it. No it will not be stuck on, I use zip ties. Anyone use a telrad with one of these? The peep sight is cool looking but I have not had alot of luck with the equivalent one on my Lomo Astele (hence the telrad). But don't worry. I am still and will always be a Unitron girl. Always lines me up on what I want to look at. Never seen a Zeiss with a telrad on it. Just would wreck the looks. If you really want a finder scope then find the Zeiss one that fits the scope. Communism had its problems, but it's interesting to see what those societies got right. Children pretty much universally attended summer camp, which was good for their growth, despite the "Young Pioneers" programming. East German schools taught astronomy with these beautiful Telementors, although it must be said that these scopes were made by a company scavenged from the pre-War West. The country was an economic disaster, yet look at these good things they tried to do for their children. Their hearts were at least partly in the right place. One of the few scopes I would really like to own. Enjoy that scope. A guy from my home town had one, used it a few times. Looked just like yours!
