Robert, Excellent sketch of the phases of Mercury. Your sketches show how quickly the orientation of the Mercury and Earth change.
Thanks for posting. Dean

Very nice sketches. Thanks for posting them. It's amazing how fast Mercury goes through the first quarter phase.

True; some would even say notoriously so in the latter years of the company. I personally had a good (if somewhat lengthy) experience when buying my 10" Cave in 1975. Others I have talked to were not so fortunate in the late 70's.
Sorry, off topic. I have never observed Mercury with my Cave 10". I should, it's a great scope.

Very nice sequence of observations. The best I could do this time around was a bino view through tree limbs as the weather didn't cooperate. I like the fact you were able to follow Mercury several times and show the changing phase. I just do not have a good clear western horizon to allow this.
Thanks for the view. Good effort and well done.

thank you pete, the last few days the weather didnt co- operate as i tried to see the elusive skinny crescent but the magnitude drops dramatically an is at the limit of viewing in daylite anyway an almost impossible but i have seen it maybe 3-4 times in 40 years .venus so much easier but it wont be till mid may for that.

Yes, I have seen it in daylight before but just didn't this time because of weather and being lazy. I am planning on catching Mercury earlier in the day come late May/June when it will be in a nice conjunction with Jupiter and Venus. Should be easy to find Venus first and go from there.
Again, nice observations.
