I do have to contend with some trees obstructing part of the N. and E. directions. Polaris is visible always and I just have to wait for the monthly shift to bring other objects into view there. The E. direction is not good for anything low to the horizon but I can take portable scopes out for a better low E. directional view when needed. We didn't want to cut down all the trees! The total cost of everything from digging out the site, the labor, electrical, pier, etc.(except the scopes) was approximately $25,500. We didn't cut any corners, we wanted this building to last. There's no regrets! I'm also very familiar with cloudy/damp conditions, like you put up with over there -- another reason for the build being as it is to protect things from humidity and offer the most opportunities to observe whenever possible. Regards to if you lived nearby...it would be great to have another observing enthusiast nearby to share this with!
