2" Diagonal for the Questar Seven
      #5699067 - 02/24/13 10:53 PM

I have a Televue BinoView and am looking to add a 2" Diagonal off the back control box. Anyone prefer this for viewing as opposed to the standard way? Also, I believe Questar sells their own 2" Diagonal as well as TeleVue and AP. I have used the BinoView with my 3 1/2 Standard with two 24mm Panoptics...amazing on the Moon. Can only imagine this setup through the Seven. Can anyone share photos of their setup?

I used my binos in both positions: the BinoVue with the regular eyepieceholder and Zeiss bino with the Questar adapter at the rear axial port in my fully mounted Q7. For balance reasons alone, you will prefer the bino in the regular 1 1/4" port. The rear axial port means that you bring the heavy bino set-up a few inches further back, thereby dramatically increasing the moment arm on the dec slip drive.

Also, I found the build-in diagonal in my Q7 of superlative quality, better than any dielectric diagonal available with regard to polish and scatter. So there is no optical gain by putting an extra diagonal at the back.

The only practical advantage is, that you can have a Brandon eyepiece in the 1 1/4" visual port for using the finder, while simultaneously having the bino attached to the axial port at the rear.

I have to use a diagonal in my Astro 7 (no control box). I was offered a choice of the Questar or AP diagonals but found that the AP diagonal hit the focussing knob when racked all the way in. the Questar is fine. Don't know if this applies to the regular Q7 but it might be wise to try both before purchase.

I have the Televue Binoview with two 24mm Panoptics. Would that be ideal for the Seven? Suggestions...thanks!

Sweet! The Vernonscope quartz diagonal is the Questar selection that was offered to me. Compares well to the AP diagonal.
