Does anyone have any information about what appears to be 2 versions of the Lunt LS100. I see some with a focal length of 800mm and aperture of 100mm and others with a focal length of 714mm and 102mm aperture. Some have the red at the top where the objective is while others are just white.
From what I have gathered so far it seems the white ones are older and have 100mm aperture and 800FL while the red ones are newer and have 102mm and 714FL.
However on Lunt's website they have a picture of the red one and the specifications say 100mm and 800FL. Is this just old information or am I confused
Does anyone know when the change was made and what the differences are through the scopes. I imagine with the 714mm FL it would be easier to take full disk images.
Thanks, Kent

My LS100THa is D=102mm, F=7, FL=714mm. I received it last September. The website description for the LS100THa hasn't been updated in eons. It said FL=800mm before I purchased mine and still does. If there are FL=800mm ones, they must be old ones.
I recently purchased another set of tube rings from Lunt for my LS100THa. I was told the LS100THa tube rings were recently changed. The second set I received have only a single simple threaded hole on one side of each ring for mounting the Televue Sol Searcher. They're also flat on top just like on the bottom and have metric threaded holes for mounting other stuff such as dovetail plates or sun shields. Personally I like these better than the original set of tube rings because I can now attach my Scopestuff sun shield directly (using a handy thumb screw).

Yes if you look at the LS100 that Stephen Ramsden reviews on his site it is the all white older version. I wonder how many of these were sold because you don't see too many pictures of them. I assume not many. I am surprised that Lunt has not updated their website.

I think most that I have seen are with the black band. Here is another with the red

I wonder if the red is the earlier version between the 2. It seems not many were made with red but I could be wrong. I am just going by pics I have seen.

Kent,
The older LS100 had a black front cell housing a singlet lens. The LS100 with the red accents is the newer version using a slightly faster f/ratio ED doublet lens. My understand is this makes manufacturing these scopes a bit easier. There is no real advantages to the ED lens for H-Alpha use so it again is really just to simplify manufacturing.
But either way you go be it the LS80 or LS100 you are still getting a great system.

Thanks for the interesting information, Kevin. So I have seen 3 different LS100's. This is how I understand it so far.
The 1st that Ramsden reviews on his site. It has a focal length of 800 and a 100mm aperture and houses a singlet lens.
The 2nd that has a focal length of 714 and aperture of 102mm and has an ED doublet lens. This one has the red at the lens end and has a red band at the pressure tuner.
The 3rd is likely the same as the 2nd but has a black band at the pressure tuner. So probably a purely cosmetic change.
I did read this one opinion about the differences between the old and new versions. But I have not seen anything else.
From Zorg "Great!!! I'm impatient to read your report!!!! I prefer the new reddy lunt LS100 to the 'old' one, more contrasty and sharp on both surface and proms. You should like it!! As you have the black FP with the new objective, did you have a refit of your 'old' LS100 for the double stack?"

The LS100FHa threads right on to my LS100THa. I've heard that it doesn't thread directly to some older LS100s and they need to be modified before it will. Not that I own an LS100FHa, but I did get to borrow one and try it out a few months ago.
