It was my mother buying me the 1970 edition of Patrick Moore's "The Amatuer Astronomer" that sparked my life long interest in astronomy. I wonder how many of us have had that experience. Professor Brian Cox, Terry Pratchet, and Brian May amongst many are on record as saying the same. There must be a whole generation of professional and amateur astronomers that he kick started. There will be no one like him again - just unique

His last Sky@Night broadcast was only last Monday. He was quite frail and only doing the brief intros and links between the main items

He was very frail and bad looking the last couple years. He outlived my mom by 2 years, they were the same age.

Sky at Night was my favoriate magazine, it's expensive here in the US and comes to the stores 1 month late!!! But worth it. Since Border's Books went bankrupt I don't have a source close by for the magazine.

America never had a monthly Astronomy television show.

He will be missed.

You youngsters (<50) cannot imagine how much this man was in our minds and our hearts. He loved astronomy, and we loved him.

This is the end of an age. Who is there to carry the torch? Inspire budding astronomers, young and old, with his personality-rich texts and stories about the legendary figures he knew personally?

This was such a Sir Patrick - when comes another?

I hope the BBC will continue his world famous " The Sky At Night " tv-program to honor world's best known amateur-astronomer.
There'll be a celebration in March 2013 to commemorate Sir Patrick Moore at the date of what would have been his 90th birthday!

I would love to see a PBS monthly American Sky at Night program. I believe it would be a "smashing success!".

The Sky At Night tribute compilation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58iJnDhDbT4

Jack F.A. Horkheimer is often named the American counterpart of the late Sir Patrick Moore. In 1976 he presented the PBS TV-show named " Horkheimer Stargazer "
