1st Mosaic - M 104 Sombrero
      #5701818 - 02/26/13 02:46 PM Attachment (83 downloads)

This is my first attempt at processing a mosaic image.
It is a 6 panel mosaic, each panel 4700 x 4700 pixels.
After final cropping the full size image is 11333 x 7430 pixels.
Data was aquired from Hubble Legacy Archive
(72x509 10.2hrs).

Full Size Image - Click image, then in upper right corner under "View" select "Full Screen"

Really nice. Having tried some of the Hubble data I can appreciate the time you probably put into this.

Thanks for sharing,

Dan

Beautiful. That's one of my favorite Hubble images. Thanks for posting. What is the original size of your mosaic?

Thanks guys for looking and the compliments!

There are 6 panels 4700x4700 pixels, 259MB each. The original mosaic (FITS) before cropping was 1.2GB. After processing and cropping it is 11333x7430 pixels (987MB). The full size JPEG conversion is 40MB.

Pretty seamless work I'd say! I didn't read all the way to see it was Hubble, I was thinking I want that OTA!

I read the title and thought what type of scope do you mosaic the Sombrero. Hubble... Of course.

Great process!

Thanks guys, I uploaded it to APOD submissions. I don't have high hopes though. Sombrero has been APOD a few times before. Not to mention my submissions haven't been able to beat a Quilt so far! HaHa!

Very funny - how did a quilt get there?

Seriously - it's hard to know what to do with our hobby -
I have more than $10,000 worth of equipment but I have to
drive a long way to get dark skies & my results still
can't compete with other's who have
$50 grand or 150 grand of equipment so why
not use data from a mult-billion dollar system?

More people should use Hubble data.

cheers
Allan

Merci Alexandre.
