Ever wonder what the Veil looks like in 3D?

There are a lot of cool 3D images and volumetric 3D movies of various objects on the website but I found the Veil Nebula in volumetric 3D particularly interesting.
I need to dig up some cyan/red 3D glasses so I can check out the pictures such as M13 in 3D.

At one angle it looks like like a question mark to me.

I'd prefer real life 3D, but it's cold in space, and it's a long, boreing flight to get there....
These are computer generated, based on past photos and what science we know. They are cool, but they are representations, and not "real". Still nice though.

Past images will do nothing, for there is zero parallax to work with, especially at such relatively small scale. A single image, and its copy (or copies) suffices, with imagination being applied to synthesize the assumed parallax.

I thought they had a camera that flew through space and viewed it at different angles.
Just kidding. Of course they are generated and not "real" but I assume they used real data to get some idea of basic placement in 3 dimensional space.
Let's just say my future observations of the Veil will be a little different now that I have this data.

Not knocking it, yes, it's really cool and computer simulations (especially based on actual photos) have come a long way since the old CRAY 1 and CRAY II days. (Worked with the CRAYs in the 80s). I'm really getting itchy to get out, we have only had a couple of nights this winter worth anything...and I've got some eyepieces awaiting their first photons.....

FYI about these 3D images: Finnish astrophotographer J-P Metsävainio is a CN member. His user name is J.P.M. He posts frequently in the CCD Imaging & Processing Forum.
