Uranus in a 60mm new
      #5705975 - 02/28/13 06:54 PM Attachment (122 downloads)

Last fall & early winter I repeatedly observed Uranus with a 60mm refractor. Not only
could I see a disk, but I consistently was able to see cloud features.
Attached is a sketch.

LOL! That was a good one. I had to look at the drawing for a second or two, before I got it.

Clear skies!

That just goes to prove I was using to much telescope to see anything on the planet. I love your sketch, it gave me a good laugh. Thanks.

Uranus in a 70mm anyway was a blast. Other guys were able to resolve it at lower powers than I was using but alas my comparison star wasntin the field. Jokes aside - when the seeing finally hit 7/10 and I had 200x effectively in the 70mm it was one if the more gratifying things to see the pale blue grey orb. It IS a rewarding small aperture subject. Neptune was out of the question in terms if a disk tho. I didn't fven try hard - it just got too dim to quick before I could get near 200x but its funky grey blue was seen at 24x ok.

Pete

We've all heard of the face on mars, now there's another one to be debated!
