ASI120MC I see these are are a popular choice here and I am in the market for a good planetary camera. There are several choices on their website which one would be best and why?
Thanks, Keith

And...the MC is the color version. It's simpler, but better images (YMMV) are obtainable with the mono version. Unless you have a good handle on focusing through the different filters, you will be much more efficient (and perhaps less stressed) using the color version.

I think it depends on your conditions and the time you want to spend on you images. I owned a DMK21-618 mono for a while and it worked great. However I got tired of all the hassle and got the DMK21-618 color version a couple of months later. And you know what? In my conditions I couldn't see much of a difference. I now have the ASI120MC(olor) and it blows away anything I ever got with the DMK mono.

One good thing about getting the color is that it will be good for a long time, and if you do decide to go RGB, the color version can always be sold. Of course, these camera makers always seem to have something better up their sleeves and that it half the fun...

What about the QHY5-II? I got the impression, it has a similar CMOS sensor and configuration...

Do you like using QGVideo? FireCapture support isn't there yet (but in progress more or less).

Cool. I asked because I don't know these things and don't want to buy hype. It sounds like there are drivers and controls lacking for AP applications. Thanks.

This is very interesting. What capture software is usually used for the ASI120MC? And, what eyepiece equivalent is the camera? The NexImage 5 I've been using is about like a 7mm.
Thanks!
