New 20" f3.3 Sky Vision UC scopes
      #5710929 - 03/03/13 04:16 PM

Hi guys,

Have you seen this? Sky Vision is now making f3.3 scopes!

http://www.skyvision.fr/wordpress/telescope/ultracompact-dobson-uc-series/?la...

To me the 20" f3.3 seems to be a perfect fit for my next scope, I wander however if it could be transportable by a single person as the website states.

I was vacationing in Paris this past September and saw one of their scopes at La Maison de l’Astronomie. They appeared to be very nicely built scopes. The astronomy store was only selling the structures so I know nothing about their optics. Bob

This telescope looks like it might be one to consider if one wants/likes the Ultra Compact design.

It is important to know what kind of optics do they use, haven't seen much information arround.

Add a 3.3 1.25" thick Lockwood Quartz mirror to this setup and a dream scope is born!

Peter, You are soooooo right. A 20" f/3.3 Lockwood would be the bomb in this scope. While I was looking over this structure in Paris, Mike Lockwood was putting the finishing touches on my 20" f/3.0 1.25" thick mirror which went into my new JP Astrocraft scope along with a Lockwood 5" secondary.

Gene, I know that you kind of got burned on a UC scope here in the States. When I played with the movements of the scope in Paris this past year, I was very pleasantly surprised at how nicely they moved. They seemed pretty rigid from what I could gather in my very brief encounter. In fact, it was really the only interesting thing I saw in the shop. I was looking for a Leica ASPH at the time but they did not carry them. I think they had a mirror in the demonstrator in order for it to be properly balanced which it was IIRC. I think the scope I played with was an f/4? I cannot remember how big it was? You would think with my poor recall of the event that I was drinking too much French wine but I gave up alcohol about 1.3 years ago. I hope it is not old age Bob

Carbon fibre and aluminium - that seems very high tech for a dob.

Those quick release fasteners look like a very neat idea.

According to this, 9990 Euro for the f/4 20incher, so probably a few hundred more the f3.3 I guess.

Don't know if the price includes the optics, seems so.

Would be nice to know how thick is the mirror and if they offer wheelbarrow handles.

I would be interested in someone testing the new Sky Vision to see how it holds collimation. That was a big problem with my previous UC. With an F3.3 mirror, maintaining collimation will be very important.

Hi,

this picture was taken in the french astronomy exhibition that take place in Paris each 2 years : 4 days, 150 conferences and many astroshop exhibitions
here some more pictures : http://www.webastro.net/forum/showthread.php?t=100952
http://www.afanet.fr/rce/CR-RCE2012.Pdf

Skyvision is certainly today the best french "handmade" telescope producer : http://www.skyvision.fr/

the 500mm f4 cost 5690€ without optic and

UC version 500mm F3.3 cost 11890€ + 5290€ for primary mirror

bit costy, but waowww they are great!!!

uups
I double check
500 f4 UC with optic cost 11890 and link to mirror prices, I think that f3.3 should cost around 300€ more.

unfortunately I don't have it.

By the way here 2 other great french dobson makers :
