Hello, I read somewhere that usually higher magnification binoculars will have a shorter eye relief. I cannot figure out why and herein lies my question. I do not wear glasses and am ready to purchase Oberwerk 20x60's which have a 10mm eyerelief. Wouldn't I get more of a complete FOV with say a longer (15mm - 20mm) eye relief than the 10mm? The Pentax 20x60's have a whopping 20mm eye relief! Does it matter or not? Please HELP! Ray A.

Ray,
If you DON'T wear glasses ( or sunglasses ) then the 10mm eye-relief will be fine for you to see the entire field of view.
It's when you suddenly have to start wearing glasses AFTER you've bought half a dozen pairs WITHOUT sufficient eye -relief that the problems kick -in !
Which is precisely MY predicament now !
Regards -- Kenny.

Ray,
My ProOptics 25X100 has 10mm ER. I don't wear glasses to observe and I can see the full field. However, I feel much more comfortable using my Burgess 20X80 LW. ER of the 20X80 LW is listed as 13mm but to me it's as comfortable my Orion 20X80 with 15mm ER. I find myself using the 80mm LW twice as often as the 25X100 because of the wider FOV and comfortable EP.
10mm ER is OK in warmer climate but the EPs gets fogged up quicker when the temp drops below 45 F.
Is there any special reason you like the Oberwerk 20X60?( besides price). Most people need a tripod with 20X binos anyway. The Oberwerk 20X80 LW or Std model collects 78% more light, offers longer eye relief, wider FOV(3.5 deg Vs. 3.0) than the 20X60. For me the 20X80s size hits the "sweet spot" for mounted binocular astronomy. 70 deg APFOV with two eyes is a real pleasure. Works great for long range birding/nature observing too. I can follow high flying raptors and jets that are nearly invisible naked eye.... I don't think I can get the same satisfaction with a $1,500 spotting scope. ;-))
