1.) The seller knows nothing of telescopes
2.) It is a 6", NOT and 8"
3.) The finder is a parts case, missing the diagonal, may just be a tube.
4.) It's mounted in the typical alt/azm AND ant tracker mode.
5.) Definately worth the $50!!!
6.) Possibly an RKE or Edmund Plossl in the focuser (thin orange band?)
7.) 2nd Definately worth the $50!!

Remember, pictures are a must around here. In the ad it looked like there may have been some documents. That could be interesting.

80mm Meade new [Re: Dave M]
      #5763061 - 03/28/13 07:47 PM

I'm taking my boys camping for two nights in Joshua Tree next week. Raises the question of which telescope to bring. I'm going with my 80mm Meade.

There's one for sale in LA right now. 'tis not mine, 'cause I love it:

If I could fit it in at a dark sky site I would take the largest aperture scope I could.

That one's been on Cl for a while. Can't understand why it hasn't sold.

Doesn't have the classic price "swing" factor I guess. Of course I habitually searched for "telescope" while I was on a strange CL, and found a nugget. This one should make someone (closer) happy ......

If I weren't a self-employed harried father of a 3 and 6 year old, I'd have finished work on, and would consequently be bringing one of the orange C8s I have.

California high desert ain't going under the Pacific in my lifetime: aperture will have its opportunity for me in the years ahead.

Yes, the first thing I noticed is that it is NOT a SP-C6, it is a Comet Catcher.
Second thing I noticed is the mount is a Polaris, NOT a Super Polaris.

still looks like a good deal for $150 though.

Wait... wasn't it just $60 a second ago?

I guess the price of classic scopes is going up!

I live closer to San Fernando Valley than Encino does!

...but I'd have to put it someplace if I bought it, wouldn't I?

Fine... fine... fine.

In the interim, I pulled a C8 out and have it cooling down on the veranda. I feel like I've been "shamed" into bringing aperture to the desert, and am doing so.

Corrector is dirty as all get out. Can anyone direct me to a thread that shows how to clean one?
