Same Astro Works mount that accompanied the Edmund 12.5" reflector.

I saw the Astroworks fork mount this morning, and the RA bearings are in great shape ---usually the RA bearings are the big cost factor on doing a refirb on these big boys. Worm and gears looked almost pristine.

Not my ad, but I know the seller and he's a straight shooter.

I must admit that upon seeing that ad, thoughts of a one-way airline ticket to the West Coast and quick calculation as to the cost of renting a van to get it back home raced through my mind

But, no... (sigh)...

Giant cool quotient.
Not the seller.

1. Get mount. 2. Get Edmund Scientific lightweight 16" mirror on Ebay 3. Paint mount tan. 4. Build OTA for 16" mirror, paint red. 5. Have biggest Edmund fork-mounted reflector on planet.

Wait... starting over: 1. Get $18,000 for mount....

Oh.

It's an old E-type objective -- of historical interest for sure, but for astronomy I'd rather put my $$ in AS or APQ lens...

Wow 5" double clam shell E objective or a boat anchor fork mount, either one for only $18k. Quick stop me my hand is on my check book... LOL

Or for a more Economic choice the Objective from the black lagoon
Sorry but what the heck do people do to these things?

For that kind of money it is hard to keep from hitting the buy it now icon. I have been sitting here resisting the temptation.

"Boat anchor fork mount"...? Surely you jest, Clint! Those Astro Works mounts that Jim Riffle cast back in the day are some of the best mounts going, bar none.

I will admit that portability is not their strong suit, however.

the Astroworks mount would be nice, but for a small fraction of the asking price.

18k is way steep for that mount. 18k for a 130mm achromat? Way out of line even for a Zeiss. You could build a fork like that for under 2k with a drive. Crazy prices. To me, the objective isn't worth much without the scope if it has history. Otherwise it's just a good 5" achromat for 20x the cost of a D&G.

Large Vintage Refractor eBay

This so called 7" scope is really a 6" Jaegers which does measure 7" total with cell. Jaegers focuser too. Mike

A Jaegers cell and focuser. Looks like it was left outside and used for a crane. Looks to be an A. Jaegers 6" F/15 looks sad.

I agree, fellows, $18K is outrageous for that mount; even 1/3 the asking price would still be too high, IMO.

That said, I do like it...

The Zeiss is a complete or nearly so scope... My bad, still wouldn't do 18k but at least it makes sense
