Wondering if anyone uses their SE mount for anything other than their SCT. I've been eyeing the Astro-Tech AT72ED's for a long time and I'm wondering it there would be any issues using my Nexstar mount instead of buying another mount. Size wise I think it should work as the AT72ed is about 12" long. Any thoughts......

I love Stan's "SE family".
Jerry, Celestron even sold the SE mount on it's own for a while (and you might still find a few at some dealers - most of those are now from bundles that have been broken down) so they clearly considered folks using other scopes on the mount.

And here. Kson 1026ED. With an extension piece in the diagonal it will happily reach zenith. The pack at the base of the mounting arm contains 10 x 1.2V rechargeables. I can carry out the whole setup in one trip.

So basically, I can use any OTA with an appropriately sized dovetail that would fit the 6SE slot?
Can one purchase rings and a dovetail that fits the 6SE mount to attach to a refractor OTA?
Thanks

I bought one of those Nexstar 102 packages that Costco had for $200 before Christmas with intention of using the mount for my ST80 (word is that it is not quite up to snuff for the 1000mm FL scope that comes with it).
I will get a good medium duty general purpose mount to use the 102mm OTA on, or try it on my 8SE mount.

SE mount takes a standard Vixen dovetail.
You need to be careful with the length of the scope. If it is too long you will not be able to balance it and avoid hitting the base as you approach zenith.

Absolutely.
I bought from Scopestuff the 7.5 inch Cast Aluminum Dovetail Bar Item# EQBC ($19.00).
All you need is rings for you OTA, and piece of wood to mount the rings and dovetail bar on.

Well, of course, even with a dovetail that fits, a scope too heavy will not work, because the clutch will keep slipping.
Also a scope too long will be impractical, even if light weight enough, because the diagonal will hit the mount at a certain elevation and limit you to a unacceptably narrow range of elevation. I remember trying what I think was a 120mm f/5 refractor with a 6/8SE mount and the best I could do was around 60-65 degree elevation, which made it impractical in my opinion.

I have used the 6SE mount for a 80 mm skywatcher ( had to set the limits to prevent it hitting the mount ), an C8 and a Lunt 60 mm for solar.

The clutch is easily adjustable.

@bogg- use an extension tube in the diagonal (as per my post above). That should lets you reach zenith.
