Look what arrived today. I can't wait to try it out. Supposed to be clear skies tomorrow night.
I put it up against the eyepiece I was using. Man, What a HUGE difference.

Yeah.. I was surprised how big it is compared to my Celestron kit I got with my scope. It is supposed to be a nice clear night tonight. Going to give it a try.

Hi Ben,
I'm sure you'll enjoy the views your Baader 17mm will give you. I have the 21mm, the 17mm and the 13mm and find them excellent in quality and thus good value for money.
Don't forget also, that they are modular in construction.
Used in conjunction with a 2" diagonal, your 68 AFOV 17mm/1.25" becomes the equivalent of a 22mm/2" by simply removing the lens the 1.25" nose-piece contains, so accordingly, the magnification of the 17mm, (i.e. ca. X120 becomes ca. X92, giving an increase in the true FOV from ca. 0.57 deg. to ca. 0.74 deg.).
Have fun !
Best regards, Tel

Just got back in after seeing through it. It was like a difference between night and day. The wife was amazed by the views. I am going back out in a few hours to see if I get to grab a view of Saturn.
I really want to give a big thanks to Starman1 (Don) for suggesting this eyepiece. I am thinking of getting the 13mm and 8mm.
Tel - Yeah, I was reading the manual about that. That is actually pretty cool. I'll have to look at getting a 2in diagonal down the road.

I don't see why not. After observing last night, these eyepieces are so much better then stock. But I will add that it is BIG!! Very big.

James - That is part of my electric focuser plans, if I can find a Continuous Rotation servo. For now, it helps to focus when you are wearing gloves. It's just a tire for a model airplane I picked up at a hobby store.

Love the tire! Looks a lot nicer than some of the foam donuts I've seen in use.
I have a bunch of the Baader Hyperions too - check my sig line. These are great eyepieces at a reasonable price and work well on both my 8SE and 5SE. The 13mm is probably my most used eyepiece, followed closely by the 21mm. You'll find that the 8mm gets less use because on many nights the seeing isn't good enough for the the 250x mag it provides. But, there are certainly plenty of nights where it's useful, and it's great for planetary and lunar observing.

I know. I was actually looking for the cheap foam tires but couldn't find them. I came across a set of those tires. I wasn't sure the center of the tire would work. But it fits nice and tight.
Also, what is a good case for these eyepieces. I had plans to use the case my Celestron eyepieces came in, but that won't work. Way to big for it. Got any suggestions?

The 17mm is one of my most used EPs in my SCTs.
If you think the Baader Hyperian is big, try an Ethos 17.

A bolt case from Agena might work. Check the two larger sizes. The 85mm is actually 2.5" ID.

I wander how big the TV Panoptics are.
Arctic_Eddie - I was thinking of a hard case. I found this one, but I am not sure the price is worth it.

There's lots of different options. I'd check out the Equipment forum and search on equipment cases or eyepiece cases. Seems like every few months there's a thread there with loads of pictures and suggestions from people.
I use a cheap harbor freight case. I bought some foam and cut the shapes out with a fishing filet knife.

I would check out some Plano pistol cases. Here's one possibility.

Just out of interest, here's my E.P case. Very similar to Dan's (great minds and all that). My ipad sits there when I'm observing.
