Comet is out!
      #5717046 - 03/06/13 06:47 PM

Just spotted the comet at 6:30 pm here in NC! Probably 5-10* over the horizon and naked eye and pretty bright. Definitely saw the tail with 7x35 binoculars, so yeah not an airplane

Congrats, REC! Was it due west? Or what best guess on direction would you say? Thanks!
John

Tony, yes it was at 6:20. There is a little hill in the west so it sank beneath that maybe 5 min. earlier. I spotted it first with the bino's and in about 5-10 min. could see it with my eye clearly. Needed the bino's to make out a vertical line that was the small tail. Supposed to be clear tonight sp will take another look.

Bob

Congratulations! Hopefully I'll be able to get a peek later today with my binoculars. They say it will clear some today, we'll see .... Phil

Do you need flat terrain, or can you see it above distant tree lines.

Flatter the better, but I have distant trees and saw it just a few degrees above them. I think it was only about 5* over the horizon and only for about 10-15 min. before it set.

Living in a valley: great for mitigating high winds, lousy for stuff like this. Not that it matters; we've had one clearish night in the last month.

Nice! Tried here in Albuquerque but had some clouds near the horizon and trees in the way... Weekend is supposed to be a mess but next week is looking good with four days sunny in the forecast.
