(Sorry I couldn't possibly locate the references now but the ones I read were all online.) Reasons may well have been down to just subtle stuff like our own orbital mechanics, etc. (Except the famous one 65m years ago, which apparently still looks like a one-off impact.) So this one simple cause for a single period probably isn't as clear-cut as it looked back then. (I dimly remember the Nemesis stuff in the 80s and liked the idea back then.)
