Re:NexStar AP Graduates Images and Discussions [Re: Peter9]       #5694292 - 02/22/13 09:40 AM Edit   Reply   Quote Quick Reply   A very nice M81 Milby And talking of idle hands, please allow me to vent my frustration, its been months since i`ve got any imaging done,(stupid UK weather), i had been hoping to shoot my Nemesis this winter after a rather poor attempt last year. Finally got my chance a few nights back,however the H/H is always problematic for my viewing aspect, i only get about an hour to capture it before i lose the guide star to the apex of my obs roof. In the end sadly, i was only able to get 5X10 minute subs+ a single dark frame, which just is not enough on this target in mono Ha, the resulting image after processing came out devoid of any fine detail, the only thing i can say is that i finally bagged it. First this small image, which has been resized and then binned 2X2, mainly to my eyes it cleans up the image somewhat. second image, is from my first process and cropped because i did not have time to centre the H/H given the issue of time on the object. In spite of the problems you had, I find it quite pleasing to look at, almost ghostly in a nice sort of way. LOL at your "nemesis." Cold and gray again so I'm chipping away at this M81. Changed up with linear-level deconvolution using an image-specific PSF, which made more of a difference than I thought it would. Feels good to try something, doesn't it! Milby, simply excellent resolution on M81. Very detailed. To my eyes there seems to be a bit of a yellow cast to the image. Horses for courses of course. I appreciate the kind words. I posted that image all over after I finished it. Honestly I couldn't believe I took it! I can't claim the processing technique though. It's also the first picture I've printed! Milby, honestly, I have had much greater success with PHD than Maxim. Some of it is just frustration with understanding how to modify MaximDL. The manual sucks, to put it lightly, and trial and error seems to be the only method. The SBIG has a built-in guider... but I've been having so much success with my lodestar/finder-guider rig that I haven't used it. Once I find something that works... Great stuff showing up in here! I grabbed a few quick shots of the comet last night and figured I'd share. 30s unguided images @ iso 400 w/a Canon T2i through a SVR90t mounted on an HEQ5. I think it was ~5 minutes of total exposure and I forgot bias frames so it's a bit noisy. Here is a moon shot taken with the Nexstar 8 scope . It is mounted currently on a CG-5.I used an Imaging Source DMK 41AU02.AS camera and a Celestron 2 times barlow.
