Hi All, Thought i'd pass along my rs232 (serial) to bluetooth solution for EQMOD. A few months back I saw an ad on AM for a serial to bluetooth adapter for $30 and figured "what the heck"...lets see if I can get this to work. Finally got around to fooling with it today and got everything working. The adapter is from US Converters and is the BT-232B which is $45 new. I downloaded the latest drivers to my Win7 32-bit laptop. For power I put together a AA battery pack. You can also power the unit with an 5vdc usb power source as well. I just had to find out which com port the bt device was using and set up EQMOD appropriately. Ive included some pics. Now to find a way to cut the cord to my focuser and camera(s).

Nice, I'm in the process of going wireless, can you tell me, is that the serial to rj45 cable you're using (going through the HC) or is it straight into the mount?

I looked at those. Nice to know it works. Tnx for the report.
What is that long black adapter between your mount's cable and the gender changer? If it's a null modem, wouldn't changing from DCE to DTE (or vice-versa) fix that?

Sorry for the late reply! @Jeff...the rj runs straight to the mount. @Skip...the unit runs as: mount--->eqdirect module--->wireless serial adapter.

Nice. I have the Orion Atlas and had been using the USB to serial cable attached to HC to control my mount using Stellarium. Works like a charm. I decided to try Bluetooth so I could sit indoors and view the Stellacam video on my laptop or even TV with wireless transmission. Anyhow, I bought the same Rs232 to Bluetooth adapter but with external antenna. I configured the adapter and set baud to 9600, and changed the pin etc. I also bought the industrial Bluetooth dongle so that I can get ~300 feet of range. It took some tinkering to finally get the darn thing to work. At first I could connect using stellarium but the telescope identifier would not show up on screen. So after troubleshooting, I found out that I needed to disable the PROMPT so that it = N. This way when the setup commands are sent it does not reply back with OK etc or Error, otherwise it does something to the link. So I fixed that, made sure I had the adapter set to DTE and away we go. The darn thing worked... for three slews. Then the software lost connection and became unresponsive so I closed it and restarted. Now the stellarium does not link to the serial Bluetooth adapter. Well, the plug in shows that it is connected and the blue light is steady, but no control and no telescope indicator on the stellarium star map screen. I am so frustrated, I should have just bought the adapter from shoestring astronomy for Bluetooth. However, I am not sure what the range is for his version.
Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? I am using the USB for power and connected directly to the Synscan HC. Any advice is appreciated. Best, Paul

Btw if I go back to my USB to serial adapter all works fine. I just can't figure out this Bluetooth deal.

OK I figured it out. I needed to turn off ECHO as well. So here is my configuration in case anyone else in the galactic universe has the same difficulty I had.
STATUS=? Celsius : 33 VERSION : VER : 4.6. ADDRESS : 0018 DB 00E8F9 ROLE : SLAVE MODE FLOW : DISABLE ECHO : DISABLE PROMPT : DISABLE DISCOVER : ENABLE RECONNECT : DISABLE AUTO : DISABLE DIP : DISABLE <<< : ENABLE >>> : ENABLE DETECT : DISABLE SERIAL_PROTOCOL : 9600,N,1 NAME : ORION PIN : 2337 DEVICE : 0000 00 000000 CONNECT : 001F 81 000830
I'll post a pic once I get it all back outside.
From US Converters - 1 - Serial Bluetooth RS232 Adapter, Industrial (Part: UCBT232EXA) 1 - USB Bluetooth Dongle 200 feet(Part: ES-388)
I have the RS232 adapter plugged into the SynScan hand controller of my Orion Atlas mount and using Stellarium to control the mount.
Clear skies!!!
