March - new season 2013!       #5721482 - 03/09/13 01:02 AM Edit   Reply   Quote Quick Reply   At 6.3.2013 was the new observing season opens. The instrument has not changed from the previous year. Is used the 225mm Unigraph with Lunt CaK filters. Here are two results. Note the marked structure in the second picture. Therefore, the seeing conditions for CaK are very bad. Nevertheless , many structures clearly. In the next time I will build a special FH 150/1200 CaK telescope that requires no mirror. This is the image contrast can be increased. It is a relatively expensive process , to increase the contrast of the image with two filters on. However, I know of no better way for us amateurs , if the price is to remain affordable. Can I ask what the focal ratio of the beam was as it passed through the CaK double stack? Another way you might want to consider that will increase contrast would be to collimate the beam from the unigraph, then pass it through the CaK filters, then refocus it - much the same way as in a Ha PST for instance. To work in this relative big half- width of about 1.5 A ( double stack ) does not need the telecentric beam path. Professionel calcium Lyot filters have a FWHM of 0.3 A. This is necessary to the filters in the parallel beam to place.
