Rocky Mountain Star Stare 2013
      #5722651 - 03/09/13 04:57 PM Attachment (8 downloads)

The Colorado Springs Astronomical Society's Starry Meadows dark sky site is truly something to behold. This year, June 5th through 9th, the site will once again be home to the Rocky Mountain Star Stare.

This year we will have some great guest speakers including:

Dr. Michael Bicay, science director of NASA's Ames Research Facility
Mike Simonsen, membership director of AAVSO
Bruce Bookout, director of RMSS speaking on Archaeo-Astronomy
Aaaaaannnd.... Yours truly, giving a talk on the history of eyepiece technology.

Last year's attendance was a little low, so let's try and turn that around this year. How about some pristine viewing in beautiful Colorado? Early registration is now open. Price is as follows:

Early Registration (ends May 12, 2013 unless filled prior):
$40 Adult
$20 - Young Adult (13-18)
FREE - Child (12 and under)

Regular Registration (Ends May 26, 2013, unless filled prior):
$60 - Adult
$30 - Young Adult (13-18)
FREE - Child (12 and under)

Catered meals and merchandise also available.

Here's a couple of the usual suspects getting ready for the nightly observation run as Gwen the pooch looks on at RMSS 2010.

Bumping to further promote and get the word out. This year one of our sponsors (as well as our caterer), The Wildflower Cafe in Gardner (which makes a darn good green chili slopper burger) will also have pay showers for RMSS attendees for a reasonable price only a short drive from the RMSS site.

I'll be at RMSS this year again. Last year was my first year to attend and it's a fantastic star party. The site is beautiful and everyone was extremely friendly.

I'll be making stops at Black Mesa state park (where Okie-Tex is held) and at least one state park in southern Colorado for several nights before arriving! I'm ready to go!

Only 2 days left for early registration, and only about 100 slots left. Better get on the ball! Only 26 days to go!

Update: Pre-Registration for the lower $40 fee has been EXTENDED to Saturday, May 25th! Extra incentive for those last minute stragglers.

This is shaping up to be one heck of a party!
