As outbursts go this one is pretty mild, but I was soooo excited to see it! The image on the left was taken during my first rough night out taking photometric images with my DSLR, the image on the right was taken my second night out which went a LOT smoother. Unfortunately, when I got to SU Uma is was only a few minutes from the meridian so I barely had time to grab two quick images. I was thrilled to see that I captured a pretty typical outburst for this star. Another neat thing that I noticed is that the color of SU Uma in outburst is decidedly blue as compared with the long period variables that I usually observe which are the most beautiful shade of red.
Neat stuff.

SU Uma is a regular little firecracker. Either that, or I'm really lucky. I'm taking a fresh set of photometric images this even and it looks like SU Uma is in outburst again. It is a gorgeous blue.
Neat stuff.

Oh yeah. My sky is pretty much limited to the east side of the meridian and I concentrate on stars in the northeast. I have a list of long period variables that I keep an eye on as the slow stately changes in these stars is a good match to the spotty weather that we have here. I also have several cataclysmic variables sprinkled in the list as you just never can tell when these are going to light-off.
Fun stuff.

Hi John,
SU Uma has frequent outburst. Outburst occur every 11 - 17 days. Superoutburst are more rare and occur 153 - 260 days.
