The ACE that used to be a couple hundred feet away from my observatory had lots, and it was inexpensive. Sadly, they closed last year and I now have the same lack of availability. I'll be watching this thread for solutions!

I was looking for nylon screws, ace had nothing in metric. Metric thumbscrews for my accesory tripod tray were $2.40 each!

scopestuff.com has a variety of metric thumb screws for under $1.00. Free shipping, too!

My fallback for odd hardware is McMaster Carr online. It may take you quite a while to look through the choices and they generally stock small metric fasteners in both normal M thread and some of the metric fine thread as well. Read the small print. They even haves linked drawings etc. I've ordered small quantities for various astronomy, audio, and auto projects. Good service too.

I would like actual plastic knobs to replace the wing nuts on the vixen tripods. Let me know if anyone has options for that.

I have replaced all of my wing nut screws on my tripods. I don't like them at all. I have used the knobs from ScopeStuff. They are called larger size rosette knob thumbscrews. They are stainless with nice plastic knobs. Much easier to spin in my hands. Some I have needed to trim down a bit shorter to meet my requirement.
McMaster Carr also is a good source.

Happy hunting.

Best, Linda B.
