Updated LX600

Has anyone seen the announcement of the updated LX600 models? They've made the optical tubes removable. Dunno whether it's on the Meade website, as my router has decided to block that site for reasons I haven't figured out yet.

Here it is on their facebook and 4M forum:

Doesn't look like they've updated the LX600 webpage yet.

Yes, caught it too on FB. Very exciting news from Meade! Still, I am waiting for my 14" LX850 which should be in soon!

Meade posted a couple more images showing the OTA detached.

I can't see any of the images. I signed up with the group last week but I am still unable to post, comment, download, or view images.

What do you think these are for? I'm thinking a plug for the Starlock and microfocuser?

Yep, that is what it is. Very cool. The more I look at it the more I want one.

Just gorgeous!

The 14" OTA bare is $5,999.00 The 14" version of the LX-600 WITH the x-wedge is $8,499.00. I don't understand how they can essentially be selling the entire mount with forks, xwedge, tripod and Starlock for only $2,500.00. Amazing.

That's the plug for the declination motors and encoders.

Those connectors are on the "back" of the fork arms, and are symmetrical (one set on each fork arm). One pair is for the motor/encoder, the other is for the GPS. The lone connector on the front of one fork arm shown in the photo must be for Starlok, reticule illuminator, and focuser.

Very beautiful
The 16" XL200 had this feature IIRC

Yes; it still does. They adopted the same scheme (similar hardware and cabling) for this new series. That was a great idea! Makes setup much easier.

I was torn between the 14" LX600 and the 14" LX850, just got the LX850 and it is awesome. But, the LX600 will be awesome too.

Tony,

I've been following your thread on the LX850. First congratulations! It looks like one beautiful scope. I too am considering the LX850 vs LX600. I'm looking forward to NEAF this year to see them upclose and in person before I make a decision.

I am curious if the tripod top is the same. If so, the only thing we would need in order to have it both ways would be the forks, side rails and the ota counterweight system. If Meade would sell those items separately, those of us with the LX850 could have both!

Good point - I didn't look closely enough. Thanks for the clarification.

On previous heavy duty mounts (LXD650/750), they were, A tripod adaptor was bolted to the LX200 tripod head to accept the EQ mount. From photos, it appears that the same scheme is in use here. I hope so; I used the LXD750 tripod adaptor as a pier adaptor back in the day and if I can do the same here it'll again save me the cost of fabricating a pier adaptor.
