After 3 unsuccessful attempts the weather finally improved enough. On March 15.73UT I estimated it at magnitude 1.7, but the estimate is quite uncertain due to unfavourable conditions. I could see it easily with the naked eye with the Sun at -9°. In 20x110B it looked very nice, a classic comet with a very condensed pseudonucleus, parabolic coma and gently curving dust tail. An impressive sight in large binoculars, but (very) far from a Great comet. It resembles C/2002 V1 (NEAT) back in Feb 2003 at a similar elongation (and heliocentric distance), although it is somewhat brighter. You can see what we deal with here in Ohio on a nightly basis. The image is copped to about 0.5 degrees square. The two stars in the frame are about 8th magnitude, HIP 2510 and HIP 2659. The comet was brilliant through the scope and through 10x50 binoculars. The comet was just barely visible with naked eye. Or maybe I convinced myself that I could make it out, not exactly sure which, with averted vision I thought it was there a couple of times. Comet was first spotted on live view image on camera screen around 18:40. After that we trained our binoculars and telescopes to comet and there it was, small bright disc with two faint tails. I have to mention that it was easily visible naked eye last night, during an evening of good transparency. A stubby tail was on and off visible with averted vision, but with 15x70 binoculars it was magnificent. I hope for better viewing tonight... I went out at sunset on March 16, 2013 to my spot I've been viewing and imaging Comet Panstarrs from. Got a chance to use my 5.5 inch Comet Catcher and a 15mm Expanse eyepiece on it. In addition to the nicely condensed pseudo-nucleus, I detected like a filament of brightness in the tail structure starting at the central condensation and curving in a slight arc away from it. I had to look in between clouds and controlling my camera, since I was also shooting the comet. The photo shoot results are above. There's also an 8MB animated GIF image I made with 76 frames, if you want to see it moving. The image above is a base 4-sec image, the comet parts of 4 other 4-sec images and 15 other 2-sec images. I did what I could to make it half-presentable. Lots of clouds in my shots. I could have totally scratched and not got anything, so I’m pretty happy with this one despite the clouds getting into my pics. Plus, I am really happy to have seen the comet through something bigger than my binoculars. Edited by Mike B. I saw Comet Panstarrs in modest binoculars and in Paul Lind's 14 incher. John Rhodes, the Televue rep, imaged it in a TV 101 and for short exposures there were three nuclei seen. You had to zoom in the image, but they were there. Anyone else see this? It was not seen visually, I saw it as having an elongated core, but not seperate pieces. If I remember, John said he shot 3 or 5 second exposures.
