Comet Panstarrs
      #5736456 - 03/16/13 02:48 PM Attachment (41 downloads)

At last... A beautiful evening yesterday! So I immediately ran out to my shed, ready to make a drawing with my Nexus 100. Frustrating enough however, I soon realised that I wouldn't be able to observe it from there because of the hill behind our field which hides the lower 10-15° of the northwestern sky from my telescope. So I ran to the street behind this hill, armed with a pair of Helios 10x50 binoculars and a camera. With the naked eye, however, no comet to be seen. The camera only showed the comet as an extremely faint blob. But with the binoculars it was quite evident, just above the mountain in the distance. So I combined both the picture and my impression through the binoculars into this drawing. A small crescent moon illuminated the sky and against the "Monte Ventasso" you can see the lights of the village of Busana.

Peter

Pretty impressive work Peter. My guess is that a photo would not have better served the impression you wanted to print.

Love that

Jean

Thanks, Chris and Jean! The moon is in fact a drawing. On the original photo it was largely overexposed, so apart from the colours which I generally maintained, I started from scratch.

Peter

Ah whaw Peter, that's really good. I'm impress, a lot. What´s the technique you use to obtain such a nice dark and homogenous sky ? Probably not watercolor, pastel ?

Well, in all honesty, I started from a real photo to which I applied some Photoshop effects in order to make it look like a real drawing. But the stars and also the comet were all added afterwards (the comet wasn't visible to the naked eye anyway). But also the moon was done from scratch (on the pc) because the moon on the picture was largely overexposed.

Thanks for your lovely comments, guys!

Peter

Thank you very much, Mike! And... If you've had enough of bad weather, Emilia Romagna isn't that far away...
