Hi all,

Playing with a new camera, the ASI120MM, compared to my old Lumenera this one has much faster framerate and very high quantum efficiency. Overall tonality and shadow detail seem much better with this camera.

This Plinius shot has many odd little structures in it like the 2 small raised plate-like craterlets near the Jansen rille. I really like the tonal variations of the different lava flows here!

Hi Mike -
Wow! Keep playing with that new camera. . . that is a really nice shot. I've spent ages poring over it - thanks. Looking forward to seeing more!

Wonderful!

Mike,

It's snowing here. I do not feel that bad now, since I saw your photo.

Absolutely stunning.

Mike, is this shot without filters? I've been thinking about the color OSC version, but this certainly tempts me.

Keep doing this, Mike, and I'll have to consider giving up going outside for firsthand views. Superb detail!

Thanks guys!! This shot had the best seeing of the night, all the rest were almost impossible to process due to the wind making the scope jitter too much!

Richard --this was shot with a true tech R/IR filter

The camera is wonderful!

Mike

Guys, I made a mistake in capture and had the brightness set too high on the camera, thats why the blacks look too grey in the image, this reprocessing fixed that:

Even better! I don't know much about AP so I'd like to ask: are you just putting the camera in the eyepiece of your dob and snapping single pics? Or is this a video stacked with registax? For moon and planets you don't need tracking I presume as the pic would only be a short exposure, or if it's a stacked video you would need tracking? Thanks for any info.

Thanks Clay!!

Nirvanix- I put the camera in a Televue powermate barlow (2.5X's) and take about 3000 frames in about 100 second video capture. I then do a multipoint alignment in a program called Avistack. The final stack has anywhere from 100 to several 100 of the sharpest frames. Then it is on to PS for sharpening and tone adjustments. Yes my dob has tracking, but its not the best, I have to do fine tuning of the drive during capture to keep it on the chip.

cheers

Mike

Thanks Guys! Nirvanix-- actually my CSC has been much more white than normal, I think the whole SW has been experiencing a lot of high cloud cover the last couple months, like more than normal. But I should not whine, my old stomping ground in Ontario Canada has been far worse off!!

Congrats on making another LPOD today! Outstanding work.. I measured craterlets down to 750meters (a double near the bright little crater at the bottom of the LPOD image).

Thanks Mardi and Rob,

I think this new camera will make me realize the potential of the optics in my scope to a greater degree (seeing gods willing of course!)

cheers

Mike
