For the last few weeks we've been socked in with clouds and rain here in the Pacific Northwest, and Monday night things cleared out enough to grab a photo. I drove to a wide field out in Mason County about four miles away from the observatory and set up shop. Captured this wonderful shot of PanSTARRS on the western horizon, about an hour after sunset.

Thanks, guys!
I have to admit, it was quite tricky finding the thing. Arrived at the field at 7:45PM local time and waited nearly a half hour in freezing temperatures, most of the time it was stuck behind high clouds. Once it cleared, I fired off a few frames. The rest is history.
I only wish I had my telescope with me at the time. LOL!

Nice shot Steve.
It may have been difficult to pick up with a scope with the limited time window. In any case the land scape adds to the image. Note the direction of the tail is away from the brightest part of the sky where the sun just set. In the high res image on astrobin you can see the straight ion tail and the fanned dust tail.

Very nice image. I am still waiting for the clouds to part enough where I am to get a shot at it.
