Given that description, the most obvious answer is Burnham's Celestial Handobook. If you want something that goes into more depth on the constellations viewed as historical and culture constructs rather than as sectors of the sky, there might be other answers. Likewise if you want something that specifically discusses telescopic sights. But for both together, I don't think Burnham's has any serious competitors. It certainly doesn't go into Burnham's depth, but it does illuminate the mythology as well as the principal objects of interest in each of the constellations. One principal difference the addition of the 'NSOG' having a seasonal aspect to the overall organization which I like in ways and dislike in others - depending on time of season sometimes need both volumes handy. Lots of information about viewing and finder charts and images, and possibly more important sketches! . But I have to admit I grew up with Burnhams and it always gets first recommendation especially at the price used sets go for these days, quite a bargain. This has great, clear and easy to read maps of each constellation, and the interesting objects within each! I highly recommend this one! Wow, I forgot all about that book .. pretty amazing considering that I worked on it. (I did the charts.) It's a lovely little book, very well written and approachable, like everything that Ken writes. But it's definitely oriented toward the beginner. Probably a step more elementary than the Peterson's and Audubon's field guides, both of which are excellent books in their ways. Constellation Guidebook by Antonin Rukl (1999) Atlas of the Night Sky (1984) I really like the Atlas of the Night Sky!
