Homemade Dec finder tool new

If you ever want to see what your EQ or Fork mount is set to here is a simple cheap tool to make. Don't trust the glued on sticker on your mount!!
Use a Protractor a bit of Fishing Line and small sinker.
Make sure to tie the line loose to swing through the protractor, set your tube to 90 degrees and place this on the tube, Gravity will do the rest!

How about determining declination when the optical axis in not on or near the meridian? Trigonometry required.

To set a declination circle, I'd spin the mount in RA, looking for the least field motion when the OTA is aimed closest to the mount's polar axis, then set to +90. Thereafter, the circle will be sufficiently accurate (unless horribly small), and moreover will work at all scope orientations.
