Telementor model 2 disassembly new
      #5762960 - 03/28/13 06:52 PM Attachment (47 downloads)

Here are some pictures of the Telementor II after I took it apart. Very interesting that there is an OTA within the larger tube complete with baffles that actually is moved back and forth by friction by the focusing knob.

pic 3 these are the guides inside the larger tube that keep the smaller tube sliding back and forth smoothly.

Interesting! Thanks for posting these, Johann.

What is the friction wheel made of? It is some sort of rubber compound?

James

All metal. The wheel goes into the long slot in the ota and just moves it back and forth when the focuser knob is turned. the wheel has a slight taper to it. Provides about 4" of travel.

Certainly an unusual set up. How light / heavy is the focuser knob to turn? Is there a noticeable difference in feel between the tube being horizontal and vertical?

The little white blocks are Teflon.

Johann, how's the weight of the T2 compared to the T1? I would imagine the T2 is a good deal heavier. If so, that must be one heavy telescope considering that the T1 is more than twice as heavy as any other 60mm refractor that I own.

Thank you for the pics Johann ! -- I've always thought the T2 focusing mechanism was a 'standard' R&P (or possibly a worm gear type, like the Unitron focuser).

Now a friction wheel driven linear actuator..., that's something quite original. Works great though.

Allan

Terra

When I put it back together I will weigh both and let you know the difference.

Have not checked to see if the feel is different versus vertical amd horizontal.

Thanks for the great pics ... I have a T1 but I always wondered what the inside of those looked like and how they worked. Very interesting.

Bob

After I took it apart I realized I did not need to disasemble as much as I did. Will be interesting putting it back together.

No difference in feel between vertical or horizontal focusing. I redid lube with synthetic white grease. Still have not weighed the two tubes.

Not sure if my scale is accurate enough. They both weigh in at 6.8 pounds.

one half round goes opposite the focuser. the other goes at the end of the tube with the spring loaded shim opposite it. I really did not need to take any of those parts out to remove the inner OTA. I had no clue what I was going to find so I just removed every screw and then the tube came out and all the parts just fell out afterwards. I had to make a special piece of wood with nothches in it so that I could hold the shims in place so I could put the screws back in My hand was too small to fit into the tube..
