My Takahashi FS128:

Tom - how did you change the colour of the objective cell ??

David,
My Tak was owned by a fairly well know amature astronomer/scope builder that paints all his scopes red. As mine had some scratches, I repainted the ota back to a Tak white. The counter cell was done in black ( I used an automotive acrylic lacqure) to match the soon to be added (whenever Starlight finishes making it) FT 3035 focuser. To paint it , one just unscrews the counter cell after removinfg the small set screw in it, and then three screws remove the lens assembly from the counter cell and you can paint it. More pics when the new focuser is ready.
Rex

Here is a rare combo to see next to each other.. wish I could say I could keep them both but that is a bit rich for my blood.

Congrats Mike on the new 175. Geez, that TEC is really huge! Can't wait to hear your impressions of the 175.

Beautiful!

Refractors don't upscale gently, do they?

Hi Mike,

Congratulations for the new acquisition...!!!
May I ask what is the modification you made to the brake of the 200ED focuser...?!

Cheers,
-- Max

PS/ As per your dilemma, I spent myself quite a long time with the 200ED and the 180EDT side-by-side to assess which one to keep...
A few months later... I ended up getting a second mount
Beware...

Congratulations Mike. They both are truly keepers!

Per Roland, the theoretical resolving limit is .6 arc seconds. Not true.

I just got back from the Texas Star Party where on one specific night I was able to resolve the Cassini division at .65 arc seconds. Later that night I went back to Saturn and to my surprise, the seeing conditions supported the best view I have seen outside of a picture. I, along with several others, were able to resolve Enckes division at .35 arc seconds and see shadowing on the planet from the rings at about 300X.

The 175 will exceed your expectations in every way.

I would not want to be in your shoes with having to decide which one to keep.

Best wishes!

Joe

Here are two that have made it to my kitchen table. The TSA 102 was mine, the GOTO 125 ED was borrowed.

Thanks Linda and Scott I had it out earlier in the week for first light for me and loved the views I got around Scorpius.

Here's mine. Celestron C4R about 7 years old. The Moonlight focuser was the best upgrade I've done followed by the wood tripod.

Celestron/Vixen 90mm f14.4 from c~1980-84.

Great scope and superb planetary views. I usually use an extension with the AZ4 or HEQ-5 for this one.
