Been into this hobby for a couple of years, and lurking on Cloudy Nights for a bit but thought I should introduce myself. I find all sorts of interesting discussions on here and I'm glad to have joined!

I only have very basic equipment, a low cost 76mm Newtonian, but I have done some minor upgrades to it and have found 29 Messier objects with it so far. Hope to be able to upgrade to something much better this summer.

Anyway, a big hello to everyone on the forum!

Welcome to Cloudy Nights! Glad you've joined us on the forums. The very best scope is the one that is used; and finding 29 Messiers, makes yours a very good scope!

When you're ready to upgrade, the kind members will be glad to guide you to get the one that fits your needs!

Welcome!

Nothing wrong with a 76mm reflector.A 3" Tasco re-energized my interest after years of armchair astronomy.I read somewhere that Messier's own scope was a 7" but with much less reflective metal mirror and a modern 3" is equivalent. So you may eventually see all the Ms as they were first seen.

Be patient and a good deal on a 6" or 8" will appear ,and with one of those the Messiers will be easy.

Well, I can get pretty good views in my backyard, can sometimes see the Milky Way from there too, even though it's in the suburbs...but it's a small city so the LP isn't too bad. Even the edges of the city are pretty darn good.
