TRex Motor Mounts
      #5776933 - 04/04/13 01:54 AM Attachment (35 downloads)

I finally finished my motor mounting plates for the T-Rex. Still waiting to see what Ed comes up with, but I am quite satisfied with my final approach. I can install or remove the whole assembly in less than 30 seconds and I only have to loosen/tighten one screw on the motor connector shaft and one screw on the T-Rex.

I connected the JMI Motors to the T-Rex using a 1" x 1/32" Steel plate that I bent at an angle. A slot rather than a hole is used at one end to attach it to the T-Rex and a single hole permanently attaches to the motor. I made it angle because it seems a lot sturdier and looked better.

Rustoleum Black Satin paint matches the mount perfectly and I even pulled back the rubber motor covers and painted the side of the motors to give it all a cleaner look.

I need to shoot some daytime pictures of the whole mount but here are a few flash shots of the mounts. I have removed the handle and saddle in the pictures because I am painting the grey handle with the same satin black paint right now.

Looks very good Lane! I have the white T-Rex on its way from Japan at the moment and will then look to do the same with JMI T&T motors and Argo Navis.

Ed from Deep Space Products is working on a solution with JMI that can be marketed, his may be better than mine. But if you don't want to wait on him, this approach only took me about 2 hours to do, not counting the painting process of course and its works very nicely. I already had the JMI motors and controllers so all I had to order from JMI to complete the project were those two shaft couplers you see in the last picture above. They charged me $12 for the pair (or maybe it was $12 a piece Pretty high either way for a little aluminum tube with two screws in the side. But these things are impossible to find elsewhere). The shaft on the motors is the same diameter as the T-Rex shaft adapter. The T-Rex actually has very large shafts on the worm gear, but they give you an adapter to make it small so it will fit the flexi-cables that they also give you. So I attached my solution to that adapter, not directly to the T-Rex. Ed may come up with a solution that attaches directly to the T-Rex Shaft without the adapter in the mix, which would be a lot smaller package and probably look nicer.

They have snow in Australia? I did not know that.

Nice job Lane, that looks like an effective solution. Looks like the R&D effort is paying off, we'll have to wait a spell to see what Ed comes up with. I can deal with the slow-motion cables for now, but I am really looking forward to a powered option. Well done sir

Clear Skies,
Brian

Thanks Brian,

In case you are interested in the motor specs, here is the motor that JMI uses. JMI adds the rubber boot and the wires to this motor. If you ever had to replace one this might be a cheaper way to go if you know how to solder.
