Mount for Explore Scientific AR152 f/6 Refractor
      #5781704 - 04/06/13 12:17 PM

Can anyone suggest some good sturdy Mounts for my new Explore Scientific AR 152 f/6 Refractor. Thought about purchasing the Explore Scientific Twilight II Mount which appears to be Heavy Duty enough for this particular scope. Any other suggestions?

For manual Alt/Azm I use a Canadian Telescope Duo-T (same as SkyTee II) with ADM clamp and for GOTO I use a Skywatcher EQ6 also with ADM clamp.

Ditto on the Canadian Duo-T.

Here's mine holding a AT152mm and SV110ED with no problems.

Non goto the Twilight II works very well. Goto for visual only I have had one on a CG5 and it did fine but you will want the Orion pier extension for it because it is a yard cannon. If you want to be doing AP then you will want at least a CGEM if not CGEM DX.

The Celestron Advanced VX would handle it just fine. And then you have GoTo and Tracking for your new scope at a reasonable price.

Like Herrindude, I use an older CGE mount for mine when I'm imaging. Works great for me, so long as you're willing to deal with the occasional hiccups that CGEs have.

For GO-TO an EQ6 handles the AR-152 with aplomb. Taller DIY tripod so as not to be laying down on the ground with higher objects.

I use mine on a Universal Astronomics DoubleStar. It's a tandem Alt-Az mount that handles 40lbs on the right and 30lbs on the left. I'm currently having the mount retrofitted with encoders and adding a Sky Commander for push-to capability.
